Is that any effective in real life CQB? It seems like you might aswell be firing with one hand in terms of stability.

Yes I don't know jack about military tactics and I'm sure the mentioning of COD will make some of you angsty.

It seems like you might as well be firing with one hand in terms of stability.

The hand holding the gun is resting on the knife hand. So it would be stable. Anyway it would be effective. Let's say a bad guy grabs your gun arm. You have the knife in the other hand ready to stab him.

Mw2 knifing... lol

You could lunge 21 feet in MW2 if you had commando. That was ridiculous.

Anyway, yes, it is a fairly effective way to use a pistol depending on the situation.

It's more stable than it appears, because you are resting the arm with the pistol on top of the arm with the knife, so your pistol is most stable than if you were to be holding it free hand.

The Wonderful LeSieg!

I doubt running around with a knife in most military operations would be a successful or consistent tactic. This is why we don't make soldiers' primary weapon a knife.

I believe the knife is even considered more of a tool over a weapon? Not that it certainly couldn't be used as one, just that it's equipped mostly for its non-lethal purposes.

I like cheese more than you
Except Blue Stilton. That stuff is nasty. As is any cheese that contains stuff other than cheese

All I remember about MW2's Tac Knife was that it was so easy to run about with it and how hillarious it was to run Care Package, Sentry Gun and Emergency Airdrop

  • 12.20.2012 8:20 AM PDT

I suppose, but I mean the moment you fire it..There is nothing holding your gun arm from ascending.

It's more typical to be holding a flashlight in that fashion than a knife.

It's not that hard to fire a gun one handed. I'm only slightly less accurate shooting one handed (dominant side) than I am with two hands..

Not if it's day time, or you don't want to give your position away in a night op.

You're right. I was trying both ways pretending to hold a gun. Holding both hands up is a little harder. With the other way you are using your bottom arm to help support the gun arm.

Nope. It took a lot of practice but it's really not that hard. I should have clarified though, I'm shooting a handgun. Thought that bit may have been obvious.

... Which handgun are you firing, and how fast are you firing? The shots should be exponentially different, because your hand tends to move a lot more when you are holding with one arm (and now support)....

It would only help in the sense that you already have your knife out of the sheath, so if you need to use it there are a few seconds saved.

S&W SD 40. I don't keep track of how fast I'm firing. I'm not trying to break speed records but I'm not exactly taking my time either. I don't really understand why this is so hard to believe...

The recoil should be much more difficult to control without a brace.... Not to mention hand sway while breathing.

You've got some steady hands then...

  • 12.20.2012 8:55 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Conserve ammunition because in real life you don't carry 300 rounds for your pistol, and to stay silent. Silencers aren't all their cracked up to be.

Practice my friend. It's not easy by any means when you first start but muscle memory and building up the right muscle groups helps combat that.

Second acct: RC Zerg Rushes

Does it work? Technically, yes. It's variant of the Harris technique, originally used before handgun weaponlights became widespread.

In practice, it'd be much more effective to have both hands on your handgun and your knife in an easily accessible sheath mounted on your vest.
