Though the morrow may be barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return.

Ok flood, I need a little bit of help. I have a dog who has been having some problems the past few weeks. She had started biting her back to the point of pulling hair out and bleeding. We saw the spot which was the size of a quarter the first day, so we got some spray for it. The second day she had chewed further while we were all asleep and it grew quite larger, being that it was sunday though we couldn't go pick up the cone we got for her until the next day. By the third day it had grown yet again, but we were able to cone her at that point. 2 weeks went by and it had healed up nicely, so we gave her a nice bath with some oatmeal shampoo (which is supposed to be good for itching), and I noticed some bumps here and there. Well since then she was fine the first 2 days, but she started at a spot a little higher on her back, so we reconed her. Now she has started on a spot on her back haunches, but she can still reach it even when conned. Now the poor girl has bitten it open and is in a bit of pain. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what we could do to further treat her?

She is a bernese mountain dog, we live in PA. The winter has been quite calm and even warm at some points, so being a cold weather dog it might explain why she might get hot spots.

Last thing I can think to add is one spray is an antiseptic and the other is a spray which is supposed to reduce itching.

As easy and simple as it may seem, we don't quite have a lot of money for vet bills. I would take her myself but my money is next to nothing at this point.

Vet is probably going to diagnose a skin allergy and give you prescription strength medication to stop the itch and help it heal.

Is there anything in your home that you've changed that you haven't done before (especially say, cleaning supplies)? We had a foster dog that was allergic to something in the carpet cleaner we used to use as an example.

But really, you should have money in your budget to pay for these things or dog ownership probably isn't a good idea. Bernese do not live long relatively and have a lot of health problems - what are you going to do if it develops a severe problem?

I know, I'm not the one who bought her however. I still live with my parents and that is a lot on them for that one.

I persist too long after my own defeat,
Yet I still press forward, staggering on my feet.
But I know that my resolution will be my end.
And once I fall, I shall ruefully transcend.

Could be ringworm or mites... either way, a vet appointment should be in order.
