"Operation Game Over continues its aim of protecting children from -blam!- predators via online gaming networks"Good.
Pissing in a public place gets you a sex offender title.

Good parenting should be a law I swear. They should always teach their kids to not do anything with a stranger.

You can tell kids that as much as you want. Fact of the matter is that kids are easily to convince. Kid meets this guy on Xbox Live, and because they talk and play games, trusts the guy more than just talking on the PC.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I have yet to hear of one example of a child meeting with an adult in real life because of xbox live.

From my area this year

Bastard and where were the kid's parents?

I believe the kid went over when they were at work. At least, if I recall correctly.

You can prevent all the people who previously committed these crimes but you can't stop new criminals.

UNLESS, you educate kids and parents about online safety or simply do not let kids play online. If the child is not old enough or responsible enough to handle playing with people they do not know, they should not be online.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

If a kid is dumb enough to do that, then he gets what he deserves. He should have listened to his parents, and they should've drilled "don't go with strangers" into his head harder.

The guy meeting the kid is still a piece of -blam!-, yeah, but it's the PARENTS' job to teach their kid to not do stuff like that.

Then they should show their kids real examples of other kids meeting adults and being killed. It's a scary thing for a child to see but might make them think twice.

So, we're calling the victim dumb now?

I'm not saying I agree with the banning of sex offenders, nor do I disagree that the parents need to step it up in terms of monitoring and informing their kids.

What I am saying is that it's 2012. There are so many more ways for people to connect to children if they so choose. Online gaming is just another way.

Then maybe it is better to control the children and hold the parents more accountable.

That way we keep the scum away and prevent new scum.

If you can prepaid purchase xbox live, steam money, amazon, origin, and everything else, I don't see how this would stop the people who are genuinely going to attempt to prey on children for more than the time it takes them to set up a new account. Stranger danger is mostly bull-blam!-, but there are some obvious exceptions.

I think our society is starting to be afraid of itself.

Parents are telling their kids the world is unsafe and trying to shelter them.

So, should we not allow children online? Even if it's games with acceptable ratings?

The fact is, be it Call of Duty or Halo or a Lego game, these people will still find kids.

No, but parents should be responsible for monitoring their child's online activity.

If their child can't handle online interaction, don't let them play.

Tej~

What? why not just block them from communicating? this doesn't even make sense.

  • 12.20.2012 6:12 PM PDT

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I think it's a bit absurd to blanket ban them.

They should be restricted from certain games, communication features, or other things, but a blanket ban seems like overkill.

I feel every time I read an article that's vaguely political, having to do with video games, it almost always ignores parental responsibility regarding what their children or teenagers are playing online. Predators aren't going to get any 12 year olds on xboxlive if 12 year olds aren't playing xboxlive... which they shouldn't be, for the most part.

People made the same thoughts when it comes to children using the internet. Unfortunately, most parents trust their kids enough to leave them alone in an online community.

I've had personal experience in that field - namely the negative aspect. We can try to police parenting, but it just doesn't work.

  • 12.20.2012 6:13 PM PDT

Why don't we just ban the internet all together? I mean an adult can solicit a child just about anywhere.

I'm sure the guy who was drunk and peed in a back alley deserves to be banned from World of Warcraft.

Yeah, it's unfortunate you can be cited a "-blam!- predator" for peeing in a bush at 3am with nobody in sight. It changes everything for that individual.

Is a parent really supposed to not let their kids do things like play games online because of sex offenders?
Little kids aren't even allowed to be playing those games in the first place.

But even then, this isn't a case of parents letting their kids walk into an alley full of -blam!-s, and then the government sending in a trike team, this is a case of the parents essentially abandoning their kids then calling in a strike team because their kids might be targeted by -blam!-s(of course they wouldn't know if they really were because that would require taking responsibility of your child).
