a mediocre franchise with a few fantastic games?

I noticed that most of us pretty much universally agree (although some disagree) that Halo:Reach was bad. Most (I think?) think Halo 4 is bad. Most of us thought Halo Wars was bad. Most (some?) of us thought Halo 3:ODST was bad.

So, at this point, what would you say about the Halo Franchise overall? With some of us only liking Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3, does that mean the series is overall a mediocre franchise? Or not?

*Also, I know some of you loved Reach/4/ODST/Wars and some of you hated CE/2/3.

I think at this point, Halo is just a mediocre franchise with a few good games. :/

One does not simply trolololol into Mordor.

Or maybe it's just impossible to cater to every single Halo player, so there will be a group of dissapointed people at every game.

There's a difference between people being simply dissapointed and people being dissapointed because the core gameplay mechanics and design decisions aren't up to snuff.

Well I was trying to keep specifics out of my post to avoid a massive Halo 4 argument, the point I was trying to make is that there will never be a game, Halo or otherwise, that has absoluetly 0 people who don't like it

I think the changes from H1 to H2, H2 to H3 and even H3 to Reach were gradual expected and progressive changes. I can understand all of the changes, even I disagree with them, and all of Bungie's works have gripped me for a couple of years of play time each.

H4 doesn't seem like a progressive natural evolution of the latest Halo games. It's a weird frankenstein patchwork quilt of a game, with bits borrowed from other franchises, others from H3 and Reach, and some random wildcard things too. The changes to CTF just aren't natural changes in my eyes, nor is the removal of staples like Assault or even Firefight.

I've been playing Invasion lately and I must admit I have been having a freaking blast. It's a really great gametype that just reminds me of how interesting and creative a Halo game could be, oh and with Elites in there too to mix it up.

I wouldn't say H4 is mediocre. I'd say its a good game, just not a great game like we have been used to.

I'm your biggest fan!

To be honest, I have no love for the non-trilogy. Halo 1, 2 and 3 are among my favourite games. Reach, ODST, 4 and Wars are all just decent. ODST was really good in some parts, I've had a blast playing Halo Wars with friends, Halo Reach and 4 were well-designed titles with some serious things going for them, but none of these games even compare to the original trilogy. Especially not Halo 2.
