Fear of being beaten isn't a good way to raise kids.Maybe, but no fear of getting beaten doesn't seem to be working too well.
We have kids on here that actually belive the world is going to end tomorrow. Maybe the strap wouldn't make them smarter, but at least if you were strapping them it would be easier to tolerate being in their presence. Education is the answer, not corporal punishment. You don't learn anything by being beaten, you just learn what not to do.
Your parents obviously never spanked you. My parents regularly spanked me whenever I misbehaved, and I've turned out to be a well rounded individual. I would say that I learned right from wrong a lot quicker than most people. It worked very well for me.
