Subject: If Bungie would have made Halo 4 how different would it be?

Just a simple question to create a decent discussion.

Obviously graphically it would have been different. The soundtrack might have been a little stronger. But the general story I think would have been the same with Requiem, the Didact, and the Librarian.

Other than that how do you think Halo 4 would have been different if Bungie was at the helm?

Blackness Confirmed. You've got soul.

Dumb people are just blissfully unaware of how very dumb they are.

Honestly it would have probably been much the same...

Doesn't matter. World ending. No time.

I still do not know what Bungie thought of the feedback from Reach, so I honestly cannot answer without projecting my own thoughts in their stead. However, I definitely feel it would be very different.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

I am not really sure how it would play or look..... but I at least know that it would be quite thoroughly tested with things like custom game options and Forge being locked down properly.

You know.... testing, bug checking, quality control. That sort of thing.

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

I'm not honestly sure. I know that 343 changed up the Forerunner story that was told in Halo 3's Terminals a fair bit, so I can't really say what we would have seen.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

No JIP, no broken features, more custom options, better music, no lolhighlighting weapons, no ordinance, and no lolrandomweaponspawns.

  • 12.20.2012 7:47 PM PDT

As much as I love the Halo 4 soundtrack, I feel it didn't fit the campaign in terms of when the music would play (excluding 117 and the broadsword). Bungie's Halo games were better in that regard.

And the voice acting. I liked the Didact, though.

I agree, It would have been slightly different.

Bones of my enemies.

Well the game wouldn't have shipped as a beta, I know that much.

But because of the way Bungie does things, the graphics would have been way too cartoony (always hated that about Bungie) and the overall sandbox would have been far less balanced (assault rifle would of been useless again).

Ever since Bungie's lead designer walked away from developing Halo after Halo 2 (though I believe he was still a little involved with Halo 3), I've gotten the impression that Bungie is very ready to do something else. So I don't think Bungie had any intention to make Halo 4 ever.

Reach is the least cartoony Halo.

Not sure if serious...

That's when they tried something different. It didn't work.

"Banhammer" - Post anything on the Waypoint forums -50g
Never forget:
Porch Day
lolReach
Gen Petitt Day
Night of the Living Alts

- Campaign would probably be about the same, but they wouldn't have changed the designs and retconned the hell out of everything they saw.
- There still would be Campaign Theater.
- Forge would probably mirror 343i's Forge improvements, but not split into 3 little maps.
- Firefight would still be in the game.
- Due to the extraordinarily negative reaction to Armor Abilities and their constant effect on gameplay on balance, Bungie probably would've gone back to Equipment from Halo 3.
- There would likely be no Loadouts except in Invasion.
- They wouldn't have removed Invasion, Assault, Race, VIP, etc.
- CTF wouldn't have been horribly violated.
- Even if it was just Arena 2.0, there would be some kind of Ranked Matchmaking.
- They wouldn't have come up with nearly as many ugly armor sets.
- They wouldn't be crapping on people left and right with the pre-order/LE bonuses and specials.

I've understood that they have been ready to move on for a while but just hypothetically if they were still very passionate about Halo, how would it have compared to what 343 has produced.

On a side note I found 343's lack of a beta kind of disturbing but I also understand that it's there great reveal as a developer and for their game.

Well, minus the exceptional presentation, and engrossing story-telling.

If they didn't learn any lessons from Reach we would be in the same boat. Destiny will answer what they learned from Reach (if it has multiplayer).

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

It'd be closer to an actual Halo game rather than a CoD hybrid.

Honestly I still think they would of kept AAs and possibly made it slower paced than Reach.

True, we'd all just be projecting our desires or our fears in their stead.
