Subject: Biggest pet peeves in gaming?

Mine include, but are not limited to:

Chest high walls and cover based shooting.
invisible walls.
Linearity and missions that are only solvable in one way.
Enemies that die with one bullet where the player in some invincible juggernaut for no explained reason.
Dull colorless atmospheres.
Gritty games.

Not the most original thread, but I was curious.
How about you flood?

When strafing in a FPS campaign (Halo 1 specifically) doesn't help because the enemy is an aimbot from 100 ft. away.

An open window. I must eat the horizon?

People accusing others of stealing kills in a co-op game where everyone gets the same amount of experience at the end, based on how well the squad did.

Escort Missions

This. I've never found an escort mission that was remotely fun.

  • 12.21.2012 6:21 AM PDT

Action Games with impenetrable plots. (nuke duh russions cuz dey is turrists...)
Sudden, out of no where difficulty spikes unless otherwise intended to convey something.

  • 12.21.2012 6:22 AM PDT

Escort missions and fetch quests.

  • 12.21.2012 6:23 AM PDT

Any mission that involves AI. It doesn't matter if they are helping you or you have to escort them they are always a pain in the ass.

I'm your biggest fan!

I get the feeling OP watches Zero Punctuation.

OT: Silent protagonists, the recent trend that campaigns should be no longer than 10 hours on the hardest difficulty.

  • 12.21.2012 6:26 AM PDT

Games that make it GLARINGLY apparent when you have low health.
Like extremely annoying flashing and beeping.
Quick time events that require repetitive tapping or super-human jiggling skills.

  • 12.21.2012 6:26 AM PDT

I do. Love the guy. But I held these opinions long before watching his stuff (save for turrists)

Uh huh.

Leveling systems that get in the way.

"Check out this awesome quest reward!"
*Level 64 something-something required
"Nevermind..."

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

You know, I've always had the idea of getting some guy to play a game where all the NPCs are real people acting instead of AI.

A playable machinima, if you will.

Dunno how to do it, but the idea has always been an intriguing one.

Yeah, but without it you could just plow through a game like Borderlands.

I'd argue having Arbiter around in Halo 3 was only really a good thing.

Timed missions.
Games with great graphics but hideous esthetics.
Horror games that rely on jump scares to 'scary'
Heavy Reliance on cutscenes rather than gameplay.
Games where you feel like there is no alternative to iron-sighting.
Waypoints on screen all the time.

  • 12.21.2012 6:34 AM PDT

I'd agree with that too.
In the mission 'cortana' in halo 3, I was elated to see arbiter towards the end.

RPG's that segment "walking around" and actual combat.
Sequels with little to no change whatsoever.
inability to see your own legs in FPS/the feeling of being a floating camera with a gun.

The Silent Cartogropher or Assault on the Control Room would not have been the same without those marines, either.

What?

What you mentioned, but also:

Huge, open world maps with nothing in them
Shotguns that stop doing damage after ~1 foot
Most first person platforming
