What about School Resource Officers? When I was in both middle and high school we DID have an armed sheriff assigned to each school who was on site the entirety of the school day, every day. And guess what? There was never a shooting or stabbing incident, and all fights were dealt with and ended by a sheriff qualified to end such things. Drugs on school property were almost eradicated as they would bring in drug dogs, and any threats of violence were reported anonymously to them and were immediately researched and effectively calmed, with things as simple as getting those prone to violence in the schools the professional help they needed. They were constantly busy.
Also, I cannot find a single story anywhere of a SRO using his weapon on those he or she is assigned to protect. Not once.
As for the budget, they don't cost much to maintain. They are law enforcement, just assigned to the schools. And I'm sure we could find some money in our unnecessarily large budget to afford something as essential as keeping the children of this country from being harmed.
SROs work, this is not debatable. Many schools already have them, without issue. So what exactly is the problem with putting them in ALL public schools?
And as a background for my school, I went to a very average school. Middle class, not a very violent or problematic school.
