Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Let's imagine that a disease is encountered (or a genetic therapy, or a medication) that once infected or taken, the individual "goes into overdrive".

No super powers, but a lot of the typical inconveniences of daily existence are gone.

No need for sleep. Non-stop energy and motivation. No other illness. Incredible mood. Mental capacity is heightened to where you don't forget and can easily concentrate better than you ever could.

With this, you could set nearly any goal that would normally take you years to accomplish (such as education) and get it taken care of in almost no time at all. You could excel and exceed in nearly any field of your choosing. Your work, discovery and accomplishments would exceed the lifetime's work of other geniuses in that field and you would be able to do it in years.

But that is the rub, instead of a standard lifetime at a standard pace, your life (at non-stop high speed) would be shortened to something between 5-10 years from when you started.

Would you prefer a candle that burned brighter but faster, or is a longer and less outstanding life more preferable?

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

I'd rather hope to live an average life-span.

So I get all that but I live less? Having all of that is worth living less I think. I'll take it.

So I'd only live 5-10 years from now? No thanks.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

You mean choosing to become addicted to adderall? I've been considering it. I do wish I have the motivation to accomplish tasks without procrastinating or leaving them half-finished after I lose interest.

I am more interested to see what happens to humanity in the future.

Also, only living to 26 would suck, i would only be able to drink limitlessly for 5 years.

  • 12.21.2012 9:04 AM PDT

I only live for 5 years? or I die like at 70 rather than 75?

REally depends on if there is an afterlife or not. Not, hell no, keep a slow groove. Afterlife, burn it at both ends baby!

But in those 5-10 years, you can accomplish more than Leonardo, Mozart, Einstein, Newton, etc. did in their entire lives.

A short, but incredibly intense and concentrated life where you, your name, your contributions would be known forever. Or, a regular life, with all of the distractions and issues that cause nearly all of us to be regular schlubs.

  • 12.21.2012 9:08 AM PDT

No. I haven't been made it to high school yet and will never witness having a family. There's so much I can do without this, simply because I'm young.

I don't live to be remembered, I live to enjoy life. May sound selfish, but it has no effect on me how people view me after I'm dead.

Goat was famous. Irie was infamous. Gh0st was FaMaS.

My stats in Halol 4

Typical Waypoint post.
no it's "its got to go" you wouldn't say the "it is got to go" would you?

I'm already burning out. What's 5 more years, eh?

  • 12.21.2012 9:10 AM PDT

Meepzoid

Defiantly the latter. If people peaked their mental and health capacity, then it would create a new expectation. Sort of like back then during my mom n pop's generation where having a college degree was sacred and rare and now, it's almost expected/easy to have a degree from college so now it depends on WHERE you go if you want a job.

To be honest I believe facing things like sickness and most things you listed helps us improve as humans.

Honestly, this is a good cover up for all the idiots who won't know its a cover up .

Essentially if everyone had this ailment, the planet would thrive, as the resources would be consumed at a lower amount due to the lower lifespan of the species.

Would we excel at the given tasks, or simply be able to achieve them quicker? Would we age faster as well?

If yes then no, then I could go for it.

  • 12.21.2012 9:11 AM PDT

I don't care about accomplishment.

I just want to live a long, happy life.

I don't know, that seems awfully short. I want to get married.

I'd take it. Set up my family with the best setup they could possibly have, and then retire, my work complete. I may not have a very long life, but if I can help make the situation better for our family, then that's a life well lived.

Some people live for 60+ years and accomplish nothing. Others get cut short trying to accomplish so much.

"You get what you put into it."

When Legendary is too mainstream, you have Heroic. When you're the leader of the church of MLGeezus, have Epic in your username, and can't write 'About Me's' to save your life, what do you get?

This guy. And now, an side note: Most things I post contain lethal doses of sarcasm, so be warned, and try not to take me seriously.

Finally, a message to Bungie trolls everywhere.

I'm not sure. 5-10 years is so little, but accomplishing something so magnificent that I would go down in history forever sounds better than living longer and only being remembered by few for potentially smaller achievement (Anyone can do anything extraordinary if they try hard enough).

I'll go with enhanced life. In history and literature, one is immortalized.

Drecker225 is awesome and doesn't afraid of anything.

I cannot wait for the day when I gain control of the world.

Probably not, since at some point I would want to have a family and continue my line of genetics. This would prevent that.

Maybe in the last few years of my life, I would take it. Not early on though.

Of course! With advances in modern medicine, and my apparent super-intellect, I'll simply devote my time into researching ways to prolong the human life and/or genetically modifying the prokaryotic organisms that are giving me these "powers" to stop killing me. At the very least, I should be able to extend my lifespan to that of a normal human being's while granting the rest of humanity even higher ages. Not to mention that my conscious life is automatically 133% of anyone else's considering the lack of sleep. Aren't loopholes fun?
