Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

So I am trying to figure out what my semester grade is going to be and I really need a B. here is what I know so far.

1st quarter 82

second quarter 79. 2 grades have not been entered. One is a 50 point assignment that is worth 10% of my quarter grade. I have a 100 in this section.

the second grade is a 20 point assignment that is worth 20% of my quarter grade. both my assignments I got a 100 on, they just haven't been entered.

on my midterm I got a 63 (sad face) and it makes up 15% of my semester grade. I am currently sitting at a 78 for the semester. can anyone figure out what my semester and quarter grade will be?

so how do you get your semester grade? is it cumulative or an average of your 1st qtr, 2nd qtr, and midterm?

Not knowing anything at all about how the class is graded I came up with ~80.6. You should have an 86 in the second qtr based on the numbers you have given. Again, not knowing a lot these numbers may be off, but it looks like you'll get your B.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I have on idea how you could do that, but...

79+82= 161/2= 80.5

You're already at a B. If you got 100s on those two grade that haven't been entered yet, then you're in the clear.

1st Qtr:
82%

2nd Qtr:
79.2% (70% weighting)
100% (50/50, 10% weighting)
100% (20/20, 20% weighting)
(79.2 * .7) + (100 * .1) + (100 * .2) = 85.44%

That's your second quarter grade, I think. Now for your final. From the sound of it, your midterm is 15% of the final grade, with the two semesters making up the remaining 85% together

82% (42.5% weighting)
85.44% (42.5% weighting)
63% (15% weighting)

(82 * .425) + (85.44 * .425) + (63 * .15) = 80.6

After four years of college taking advanced math courses for an electrical engineering degree, you will feel absolutely helpless and incompetent when you struggle to remember basic arithmetic. But hey, I can do triple integrals and Fourier Transforms!

Fourier Transforms!
What do you use Fourier transforms for, may I ask?

Converting a wave (let's say, a section of music or a tone) from the time domain into the frequency domain. Instead of time (x axis) and amplitude (y axis) you have frequency components and magnitude.

It's very useful for seeing what frequencies are in a signal so you can filter them out to save energy/bandwidth and a whole host of other things.
