OMGZZ!!!!!!

"It's Afghanistanimation!"

The releases of Resident Evil games this year has been plentiful. But in terms of their mix match quality, it has been a shaky time for them. Resident Evil Revelations was met with great reception on the 3DS, some say it felt more like the horror game we all came to know and love.

But then here came Operation Raccoon City. That mediocre title was nothing more than a TPS set in a nostalgia based city with Zombies running about. The story was total garbage, which was sad due to it wanting to "change the history of the franchise" with a choice to kill some of the legendary characters... Poorly executed opportunity!

There were even two movies released. One was the usual sequel to the already existing films with Mila Jovovich. That one was meet with mediocrity from what I can gather. The animated one however, I hear was pretty good!

Then comes along the big boy. Resident Evil 6! It had a very ambitious story that coupled 4 different stories that all correlated into eachother. There were mixed feelings of love, or hate with this title. Some people believed it was a quick time event fest, others just really liked it!.. I did not get a chance to play it through all the way since I Redboxd the game. But I really want to finish it--I kind of like it!
______________

So what do you guys think? Was this a great year for Resident Evil? Or was this a failure with what could have been a re dominance of this franchise?

Per Audacia Ad Astra

I lost interest after RE5.

Resident Evil 6 was the mix of every single resident evil game ever made.
It was the greatest game I've played that involved zombies and gun-wielding freaks.

But alas, if Outbreak File #3 was made, this would definitely be the year of Resident Evil.

It was an okay year.

Revelations was not much of a horror game, but it definitely had a creepier atmosphere than 5 or 6. It was a solid game, but ultimately 5 was better (even though it's cool to hate on that game now). Raid Mode was awesome, and it should be fleshed out in future games, great starting point.

I've only played Mercenaries for 6, but it has the best combat in the series, so I want to get it eventually. It's a lot of fun to just play. It should play better now with the new camera options too, so I'm looking forward to playing it eventually.

Operation Raccoon City was doomed from the start. I don't know why Capcom insists on choosing C-tier developers to make these games... Probably because they work for cheap.

Dunno if anyone looked at the recent survey Capcom put up, but it confirms a possibility of the classic Resident Evil games appearing on digital services. So we may eventually get an HD REmake.

Resident Evil 6 was a weird Frankenstein's monster of a game. It tried being a horror game, but it wasn't good at that. It tried being an action game, but it wasn't good at that either. It tried pleasing fans of all genres, but ended up pleasing no one.

O:RC was supposed to just be a fun game, it was made by the people who made SOCOM, so what did you expect? Though I will say that zombie games can learn a thing or two from O:RC's zombie gameplay.

RE6 was great shooting mechanics, but the story is pretty awful compared to what it should have been. If they chose one of the three main characters and made one really long campaign, then it would have been infinitely better. Instead of focusing on Ada Wong's Organization and their motives behind the C-Virus, the stories just follow a generic "catch the bad guy" plot. They don't even go into the background of most of the setting (C-Virus, Edonia, the characters, etc). The campaigns all seem to start part way through the story

I just hope that the next game goes back to the RE4 gameplay and the story is a reboot like Capcom has been considering since RE5 was released

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

I never played RE: Operation Raccoon City because of idiotic idea of leaving the split-screen out.

They did not create SOCOM. They just created a handful of spin offs.

They've created the last 3 SOCOM games, so that's pretty much all they've done. Granted, they were the worst 3 SOCOM games...

Yeah, Confrontation was terribly broken... IDK why publisher insist on giving their big franchises to mediocre developers? Raccoon City with Slant Six, Resistance and Call of Duty with Nihilistic. It is like they legitimately do not care.

I have no idea what they're saying....Smile and nod.

RE4 is the only one I had an interest in.

Did you know that 93% of all statistics on the internet are made up on the spot, and that 68% of readers believe them?

Resident Evil 6 has its moments where it shines. Graphics are nice, and some of the kills feel substantial and well done. However, the over the top Michael Bay on steroids campaign was a total mess. Overall it fell vastly short of its potential and devolved into a headache inducing, frustration filled gimmick of a game.

My troll sense is tingling.

Wait, Resident Evil is supposed to be a horror franchise?

Hey, at least Sergey Titov didn't work on the game. It would've turned into Resident Z.

Capcom in general is pretty wishy washy with their games.

I tried watching RE6 on a stream and I thought I was watching a movie, not a game. I thought a video game was designed around INTERACTIVE entertainment, not trying to woo the "player" with 1000x cutscenes and awesome graphics. But alas, for every AAA title out there released by big developers who look to turning a profit, there's always the indie developer that actually cares about the well being of his/her game like it were raising a child, foresaking profit in turn for a more distinct and fun-to-play product.

I see everyone playing SCP Containment Breach but that ain't no money grabber. Instead it's designed around just having fun. This is why I like Valve with games like Portal, TF2, L4D, etc. And sadly, this is what Resident Evil USED TO be back with RE1, RE2, RE3, CVX, etc. RE4 was the last good title.

I still remember looking forward to RE5; the trailers looked so promising showing zombies shuffling towards Chris and dark corridors. I played the demo with a friend and didn't think too much of how the gameplay had changed since but by the end my friend mocked the game; I didn't get why. After picking up the preorder, playing, and completing the game, I too was dissapoint. Heck at one point it felt more like Indiana Jones than Resident Evil.
