OP, your logic is immensely flawed. Do you also believe smoking doesn't cause cancer because people who've never smoked in their life also get cancer?

I don't agree with the extreme view of getting rid of all video games, but you're arguing the other extreme here, which is just as bad.

If you really think that there's no way that a game that allows someone to simulate killing in any capacity has absolutely no effect on their violent actions, then you've probably got the same issues these people do.

The fact is, violent games do need to be regulated, especially in cases of disturbed individuals. Although, outright banning all violent games is simply ridiculous. Equally ridiculous, however, is saying that there is no correlation between sprees and video games. It's been observed as far back as the Columbine shooting, where the kids used DOOM to simulate a rampage. The link is there, and to deny it is preposterous.

Games are already regulated, it is called the ESRB.

Saw the whole thing today. Good for them because I'm not the one giving away my video games. And I'm playing Halo 2. I refuse to not to play a shooter today. That's stupid.

You should be mad at the NRA OP. They attacked the gaming industry calling us 'corrupt' because of violent video games.

I Love Lamp. And Ender's Game. Don't tell Lamp.

Too bad the NRA and Fox have condemned them too...

No thought required, just spawn and GOOOOOOOOOOO

The secret service did a study that shows that there is NO link between violent and videogames and violent tendencies. In reality, only 12%, or one-eighth of the attackers studied even showed an interest in videogames to begin with.

Correlation does not equal causation.

I hate it when the media brings up studies where they find a link between playing video games and increased temporary aggression. As if momentary agitation is going to cause them to go on a murderous rampage. This secret service study makes a lot more sense.

Definitely not biased at all.

Video games definitely make people less empathetic and makes the idea o f killing somebody less foreign.

The cake is a pie

Their conclusion isn't exactly irrational. Human beings, especially children, copy what they see. Something that simulates the behavior of a possible peer in a violent way, or perhaps worse, calls upon the individual to simulate violence themselves, could easily be thought of as violence-inducing.

But to my knowledge, evidence suggests that this is simply not the case. In fact
Biased source I suppose.
Not biased, but he problem here is that the graph is an oversimplification. What if, for example, the correlation sat firmly with shooters and crime, rather than just general video games?

We need more data!

I change shapes just to hide in this place but im still im still an animal...

Was our last day in college, we watch a movie on monday and its always some fancy crap to get video techniques from. Teacher says we will watch something we all like for the last day.

School shootings happen, teacher decided to play "We need to talk about Kevin" for our last christmas film.

After he asks what causes this and that we shouldnt be judgemental and crap, i say that even if they were influenced by video games they must have been insanely retarded in the first place.

Teacher told me that was just my stupid simplistic view.

All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why

We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

There is no way that they actually were able to get anything out of DOOM and I call bull-blam!- on it simulating a rampage.

In comparison to video games and real life:
-People (NPC's) respond and act differently than someone in the real world
-Guns behave differently, you cannot gain gun skills from playing video games
-Violent video games get people worked up because the feeling of accomplishment when getting kills releases dopamine and getting killed robs the user of it, with violent video games accomplishment is earned through shooting the enemy
-The models in the game that you shoot are not realistic and in many games you are not shooting realistic human beings, or innocent children and adults for that matter
-Video games are not realistic in the sense of gore and violence, I grew up on Fallout 1 since first grade and there was a ton of gore, I can't stand a gore thread at all on /b/
^^In response to people saying it desensualizes gamers
-Look at Minecraft, the game is peaceful and you enjoy it in the sense that you accomplish earning ores and build creations, you get mad when you are killed by lava or a friend as they are robbing you of the sense of accomplishment that you earned
-If you play a sport, do you not get a momentary anger when your team is scored on or lose? Sports should be regulated as well

They only try to see some connection because they are from a generation where gaming was a lot less common. Video games are as damaging as books, movies, music, sports, etc. If you don't want your kid playing violent video games or seeing a violent movie or reading a mature book then don't let them. I don't see why the gaming community would have to suffer just because the Baby Boomer generation might have the worst parenting since forever.

Video games can cause agression if the person playing forgets they're just playing a game and rages. This is more common in teenagers since they're more prone to agression, anyway. They'll cause actual violence if the person is already incredibly nuts or depressed, but a normal person isn't going to suddently start killing people for playing GTA.

It's a self control issue. Over doing anything will make someone crazy.

I agree with them. Kids should be dropping violent video games. There's an age rating on them and people should really be acting on that anyway.
