-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.
Which was the better movie? Tough call really.
In terms of cohesiveness the Avengers takes it hands down. TDKR first hour tried to juggle so many characters and set up so much that it was just straight exposition. It had one character who was completely plot irrelevant and another who was just barely necessary, and their inclusion only detracts from other characters. On the other hand Avengers fluently introduced the characters needed and got things going right away.
Cinematography goes to Dark Knight, as does action.
Writing is hard to say. The problem with Joss Whedon writing is the same as with Woody Allen writing, eventually everyone just sounds like the writer. He tries to make every character snappy and witty, when only some should be like Stark. But then TDKR has downright bad writing moments, like the old man explaining to Bruce he needs to make the climb sans rope, Gary Oldman's verbalized reaction to finding out Batman is Bruce, and of course showing Bruce at the end.
Effects are TDKR easily.
Hard to say. Avengers is simpler, and so it has less significant problems. TDKR is more complex, and so it has bigger problems.
