Sure, it's not using the character archetype of the past games, but I really like how flexible the skill system is in Skyrim. The quests are well done, the scenery is amazing, and the story is pretty good. The graphics are amazing and fit well, and the modding community is one of the best I've ever seen.

So why do people hate it? Or are the haters just hipsters and/or wearing nostalgia goggles?

Make a thread saying you will counter any argument against armor lock...

You, I don't like you.

People say that the story is bad and everything is dumbed down to appeal to a wider audience. Personally, I love Skyrim.

Thinking Skyrim is horrible is like saying British hates tea

I love Skyrim. Probably one of the best single player RPG of the past 5 years.

I don't hate Skyrim, I just think it's really damn boring.

Call me Stu

Last I heard a lot of people hated it for the bad story telling and the generic dungeons (<-- not sure on that one)

They should try Dragon Age 2 if they want generic dungeons and bad story telling.

Level scaling, dumbed down and casualized to Hell, all dungeons are the same (crypt full of draugr or dwemer ruins), scripted sequences look awful, hardly feels like an RPG to begin with, etc.

I love it, though i understand it does seem to delve into MIND NUMBING monotony after maybe the 3rd play through. I have done maybe 5. and I mean FULL play through. all factions, and daedric quests. yeah. it gets boring. but it is still a damn good game.

It was boring.

The core gameplay is bleh. The game style has a ton of potential, but Bethesda refuses to reach that potential because they know as long as they make a 20 square mile buggy sandbox, people will buy it and will praise it to the heavens.

Because its about as deep as a puddle.
Compared to any FPS campaign it's an ocean.

And some people actually buy FPS games for the campaigns.

The general trend is that each elder scrolls game gets dumbed down.
