it will even improve on the rather bland DayZ.
I greatly disagree.
I found the concept and gameplay of Day Z to be both engaging and unique.

While I do not hate War Z. I dislike the way the game has been handled.
I also greatly dislike the "me too" vibe the game gives off.

Point is, the game we ultimately got was far different than the one that was advertised. This was misleading.

It wasn't an advertisement.

Then let's put this in a different perspective. Halo 2 displayed a teaser trailer, a theatrical trailer, and two demos (E3 2003 and E3 2004) that suggested content which did not make the final cut or had not been fully developed. War Z is now in the ALPHA stage. We aren't even talking BETA here! Perhaps what they told you is what they perceive the final game to be. But neither one of us will know the answer to that until the game is finally released in full, no matter how you choose to spin it.

Have you played it? If the answer is yes, and you feel ripped off, it's your own fault by choosing to make assumptions of the "alpha" before doing more research. This game has no predecessors so you have nothing to base it off of other than blind faith. If the answer is no, then you really have no grounds at all for your argument. Can't bash it until you've tried it.

As for the argument stating that this is merely a ripoff of Day Z, again a void point. Just because the two games have a very similar concept does NOT mean that one copied the other. Look at the movies Deep Impact and Armageddon. Both movies are about extinction level rocks potentially hitting the planet. We don't see these movies very often but BOTH happened to come out in the same summer. Does that mean that one copied the other? No. Merely a coincidence. Whether or not Day Z and War Z are in the same boat is a question only the devs can answer. Unless you were apart of that inner circle (which I'm guessing that no one here is), then it's all based on mere assumptions that are nothing more than someone climbing to the top of a mountain and shouting a distorted opinion out of their @$$.

Please do not send me group invites.

The fact that they patched the respawn time from 1h to 4h simply because of people complaining about the game speaks volumes about the type of developer they are, regardless if they put it back to 1h now.

  • 12.22.2012 12:18 AM PDT

Why are people even trying to defend this game? It's legitimately a sack of -blam!- at this point in time. The developers have the temperament of 12 year old girls on koolaid and their entire attitude towards treating their 'alpha release' as people want to call it is about as well constructed as a skyscraper made out of dog feces.

Just no people, this is not a game worth defending.

I would play the game...if it wasn't full price and didn't look like crap.

"Right now it is raining methane on Titan. The planet Uranus is, hilariously, orbiting the sun sideways while Venus spins backwards. We sit here on a planet marked with collisions, rocked by earthquakes, shaken by storms. A planet doomed to be fried in radiation as its magnetic fields collapse, until the sun grows and leaves nothing of the earth but dust. Here we sit, glasses on our noses, inhalers in our pockets, braces on our teeth, and we say "Behold the perfect ORDER of it all!""

Arguably the worst developer, and the worst thing to happen to gaming, in years.

And I'm back again, surprised to see this thread still alive... well, I am not actually. Expected to see a continuation of this endless hate.

Instead of giving in to the media-controversy, you should judge the games' quality itself.

I don't care what happened behind the curtains. What happened there was indeed -blam!-, but I want to draw peoples' attention to the quality of a game that is in alpha state, not the false marketing.

Are you trying to say the game is a good alpha? If yes lol play some good games. Hell DayZ is in alpha, but it is still miles ahead of War Z.

I think it is a damn good alpha, yes. You could however, give me some reasons why you think DayZ is better. I played both and I don't see it.

Where do you want me to start DayZ is pretty much better in every single aspect? It looks better you can actually go to places throughout the map without being swarmed tons on zombies just to get something good/decent. You don't have the stupid "pay-to-win" system which really isn't pay-to-win. Hell then you can actually run/sprint in DayZ without your guy getting tired after 10 seconds. I am sure I am missing some thing, but those should be enough to explain why DayZ is better than that terrible game. Also the people making DayZ don't treat their community like -blam!- and don't expect people to pay for an unfinished product. I am just glad Steam is allowing refunds and took the game down.

So you think being swarmed by zombies is bad in a zombie-survival game? Unless you are acting like those machinima morons, you are never even swarmed by zombies btw. Sneaking through cities because zombies can be dangerous... I know, that is not very common in DayZ where the focus is on shooting people.
The "pay-to-win" system is already described in the OP. It's not pay-to-win when you can spawn with a damn hammer.

Your points only prove how misinformed you are, not how bad WarZ is. "You can sprint longer in Battlefield and the graphics are better. lolol CoD sucks in every aspect" ... that is the equivalent of what you are saying right now. Which is btw another great example of the dumb Internet: CoD is no bad game. It's the crown-holder in a lot of aspects.

Valve took the game down from Steam.

So... yeah.

I never said it was a bad thing unless you can't kill zombies fairly easily near the start. Hell just to kill a zombie with a bat takes a lot of effort even for a single one. Also as I said it isn't really pay-to-win, but it is still there and gives that perception that those weapons help to some degree when they don't. As for sprinting and graphics I agree they are not strong points, but they are noteworthy. Why is it that your guy can only sprint for 10 seconds, but is somehow ex military that just doesn't make sense at all? Maybe if he was a civilian sure, but call him a civilian. Then the graphics are brought up in comparison sake you can't ignore them they are part of the game and one has better than another.

From your own experience of course.

Being alone kills the game.
Being with others wins the game.

It's find someone or die.

  • 12.22.2012 7:55 AM PDT

How about the additional facts that the devs lied about features and that the game absolutely sucks when it comes to animations, combat, atmosphere, feel, and a slew of other things?

In the OP's eyes none of that matters because it is still somehow a good alpha.

Well, a majority of you guys know my thoughts. I am done talking about this game, deleted it and moving on.

Yes. I bought the game for 10$ and had as much fun as back in the Minecraft alpha.
And I don't think "animations, combat, atmosphere, feel, and a slew of other things" are bad.

OP, could you list some pros and cons for the gameplay mechanics?

From your own experience of course.
Pros:
- Accurate aiming and movement, comparable to CoD4
- Zombies are a challenge if you make mistakes.
- Combat against bandits gives you an adrenaline rush and can be very tactical.
- Game encourages you to hit the head. Spamming shots on zombie or bandit won't do much.

Cons:
- You can be eaten by zombies while you are in the loading screen. Can be easily side-stepped if you just log out/in somewhere safe though.
- Weapons are not rare enough. I have found enough to equip every character (5) with a rifle, 2 pistols and a hammer.
- You can easily glitch up buildings
- Not much to do. Something I already criticized in DayZ. Future updates promise more though.

Nope. I got banned from the game for posting my review on their forums... They simply cant take a criticizer.

From what I heard steam is accepting refunds so assuming you bought it there I would imagine you could just get a refund.
