It sounds cool, until you take into account my 22 hours of flying to get there. What should I do to occupy my time? My flight leaves at 16:30 tomorrow (it's 23:00 right now), and my first flight to London Heathrow Airport will last ten hours. Should I stay up all night to sleep through the 10-hour flight, or should I sleep now, stay up through the flight & the 10-hour stopover and then sleep on the London-Johannesburg flight?

I need ideas, these are going to be the most boring 32 hours or so of my life tomorrow.

OP, I just made the exact same flight not 5 months ago, also to visit family. I've had transit times around 48 hours before. Sucked. Anyway, during that flight to SA I watched an ass load of movies (Plane had TV things on each seat), worked on a journal I was making, listened to music, read my book, and tried to sleep.

The only difference between our trips is that we took connecting flights to different final destinations: yours Cape Town, mine was Ballito.

Have fun in South Africa! (Pretty cool place btw)

Thanks. Are you black African or of white Afrikaner descent like me? Originally my family was from Rhodesia, but then when Mugabe took over...... yeah

White Afrikaner. My fathers side of the family moved to Rhodesia after WWII, while mothers side had lived in SA for a while longer.

I visited my grandparents in Zimbabwe about 2 years ago. The place has sort of gone to the -blam!-, but the country is still beautiful.

I don't know much about SA, from what I do, it doesn't sound great. Stay safe.

Ah, my family moved from Crete to Rhodesia in the turn of the century.
