Subject: Why do you people find competitive gaming fun?

I like Halo: Reach. I think its a fun game. What i DON'T like about it is that the maps such as SwordBase is terrible. I don't hate armor lock, but i can say it can sometimes get annoying. Bloom doesn't bother me either.

Why?

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

I like to compete against, and at least with, other human players. NPCs can be fun but they will not be intelligent enough to replace human to human interaction over a digital medium anytime soon.

I also like to compete on an even playing ground, so I know I've won by skill and not chance. Why? Because I know that if I was in my opponents shoes, winning or losing, I would not want to encounter some bull-bIam!-. I also get the satisfaction that I have bested that other player.

MLG has made some excellent gametypes and maps for people to play evenly on. The only thing against them I have is that their wannabees are young and annoying.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I enjoy challenging gameplay experiences, beating players who are equal to me or better is far more rewarding than beating noobs who offer no challenge.

Are there ever times where you guys get frustrated or annoyed?

3rd edition. Now with more grunt.

TFS 4 lyfe

I am no means a pro at any game, but playing a heated match of CTF in Halo, or a good game of SnD in COD, is a blast, especially with friends.

Sure I do, I'm only human.

If there is a lot of lag or I feel like my opponent bested me with some kind of cheap tactic then that annoys me, if I get really angry though then I'll switch game or go do some excercise to take my mind off it.

Since I like to play competitively it's important to play with no frustrations etc so that my skill isn't affected.

So, you want to hear a story eh? One about treasure hunters? Have I got a story for you!

Because winning is fun.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

If you're good at the game it's actually nice to feel rewarded for kicking ass in high-stake games.

Since Halo Reach and the absent of a real Ranked playlist. Halo no longer had that. 'Must win this game, OMG don't quit or lose internet connection, every point counts' type of feel. It lost that exhilarating feeling and replaced it with COD cloned drop in and out, massive domination or massive genocide feeling depending on what team you're on.

And to be honest dominating noobs gets boring after awhile or having a massive gap in order to win, is de-motivating to play the game/objective.

Yeah, Halo 4 sucks.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Having an exciting game with a close score, that goes down to the wire, is much more enjoyable than roflstomping on thumbless idiots.

Yeah, Halo 4 sucks.

But Halo 4 has that true skill system working, why don't you like it? Its pretty competitive.

Because competition at any level is fun.

A game is far more enjoyable when its balanced, players start out evenly and you get matched up against players of equal skill over a game thats filled with inbalances, randomness and uneven matches.

One does not simply trolololol into Mordor.

Well usually, when you do well at something, you enjoy it more than when you get your ass handed to you because you don't care.

  • 12.22.2012 5:43 AM PDT

Playing to win? That's basically human nature by now so why wouldn't we enjoy it?

That is something most gamers face.

There's no gratitude in winning at something you don't even enjoy. The game has to be fun first

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Because playing against people who can barely seem to hold the controller straight all day isn't fun. Generally speaking, competitive players tend to present a better challenge.

In the trilogy games I would mainly only get pissd if I did somethinh that got me or my team killed (ex. miss an easy rocket kill), or bad teammates. Now in 4 there is Random weapon drops can tip the tide of the game with rockets and incinerator cannons, boltshot off spawn, DMR ruining map movement, vehicles health still ruins vehicles, dominion spawns to many power weapons to fast which promotes camping and long dragged out games, boring maps.

Then SO is just boring rehashed maps where they throw so many enemies with power weapons in just to drag out the missions.

Campaign would have been more fun if not for the artificial difficulty (getting in a banshee on forerunner legendary), scarcity of human weapon ammo, linear levels, that boring ass mammoth mission where you can't go ahead without waiting for it, unskippable cut scenes, button press everywhere, and so much more.

"Moooooooo"
-Ghost cow

It's not.

I miss the times when I could play well - at the same level or better than I do now when I play "hardcore". I could kick ass, and have fun. Or I'd lose but still have fun. I used to be able to accept AAs and noob tactics, and now those frustrate me to no end. And the lag. The lag makes it impossible for me to enjoy most multiplayer games because of my geographical location.

The more I say Chang the more asian it sounds.

To be competitive is in our nature. Video games is no exception.

Playing competitively and fun are not mutually exclusive. Fun is subjective. You can be competitive and still have fun regardless of winning or losing. It's about the competition itself.

Same region here too. Halo is fine but the lag in CoD is unbearable.

I'm going to invade your heart like a barn swallow high on milk chocolate and grandma love.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

If I am in the mood I can find it fun, since playing against a fellow human can both be predictable and unpredictable.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

Because of the satisfaction. When you go all out in a good fighting game against an opponent who's going all out, it's awesome. When you play with a competitive mind set you're going in to win and you're going in to learn, and with every game (unless you completely stomp) you walk out a little bit better, and it shows.

  • 12.22.2012 8:59 AM PDT

I find that those who try to hard lose sight of a games overall purpose, entertainment. However I do like to win as well, but I don't get to caught up in trying to win.
