Guns are still not the problem. Adam Lanza stole the gun he used for the shooting.

Remind me again how that means guns aren't the problem? His mom probably had a bunch of knives around too, but it wasn't a mass stabbing with a steak knife, was it?

The Wonderful LeSieg!

The issue of gun control in America is not going to be solved by taking a stance of extreme nature. People who want more guns and less regulation are selectively looking at the facts as to what causes violence as much as anyone who thinks that guns should be banned outright.

People that have armed guards are telling me I can't use a gun for protection? Are they going to hire an armed guard for me then?

Gun control is not the issue here. Even if we ban every gun ever, bad people are still going to get their hands on them. They don't follow legal procedures to obtain their weapons. Why don't people understand that? Stricter gun control is only going to hurt the responsible carriers.

I don't know why Mrs. Lanza needs an AR-15 and two pistols not in a secure place.

And why she taught her aspie son to shoot.

Don't -blam!- start with Asperger's Syndrome. It has NOTHING to do with what happened in CT. I have Asperger's and I've never done anything physically violent in my entire life, and I'm eighteen.

No it won't. If we truly are talking about responsible people, then they'll have no problem following the law to obtain their firearms.

Why wouldn't a responsible gun owner have their guns properly secured and registered, anyway? I don't see the problem with finding the solutions that keep as few guns from falling into the wrong hands as possible, and then doing that.

''I am the Shadow of the Samurai. End of your life.'' (Cue mindless hacking with katana)

Ok:

"Guns aren't the problem, people are. Adam Lanza got his guns illegally"

...he stole them from his mother, who obtained them legally, which is why there's a problem with people being able to own guns as easily as they can.

"You can't ban guns in America, there's just too many"

It worked in Australia. Granted, they had less, but I'm sure they could do it, if everyone worked together. Or, the better thing to do, make sure the people who have guns are adequately trained.

"The right to own guns is in the constitution, you can't take that away"

I don't know why people keep trying to use this argument. It's only relevant to the discussion if there is risk of all guns being banned outright.

OT: Chris Rock and Steve Carrell made me laugh.

This. There's really no good answer to the issue.

"The right to own guns is in the constitution, you can't take that away"

IT'S IN AN AMENDMENT. AMENDMENT'S ARE BITS THAT HAVE BEEN CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL. WHY NOT CHANGE IT AGAIN?

Actually it was in the Bill of Rights, which was the basis of the U.S. Constitution. It's never been "changed from the original."

''I am the Shadow of the Samurai. End of your life.'' (Cue mindless hacking with katana)

The main arguments of owning a gun:

1) To Protect me/my family.

- Many studies have shown this makes you more likely to be injured/killed.

- Unless you are adequately trained with the weapon you could pose more of a threat to yourself and those you care about with it.

- Could easily fall into the wrong hands.

2) We need them to stop the government taking over.

- This point was relevant when government weaponry was equal to that of those in the country (Rifles and Small Cannons) but now they have such advanced weaponry that this point is moot.

This. There's really no good answer to the issue.

Those of us that use our thinking skills can see some quick and easy answers. Outright assault rifle ban, stricter handgun regulation, guns cannot be sold at gun shows thus bypassing background checks, moral suasion encouraging responsible and limited gun ownership.

Those are the easy and quick fixes. Addressing mental health issues in the United States and impoverished areas where you see a lot of gun violence are more complex.

Celebrities donate millions of dollars all the time to people in need.

Granted, those donations don't always have the best results. Wanting good publicity can interfere with making the best donation. I'm not saying that celebrities are perfect, but to say that there aren't enough benefit concerts or that they don't donate a lot is completely silly.

We need better mental healthcare,
I think a bigger problem is that those connected to the perpetrator could clearly see the building up of something and they didn't react at all. There needs to be a change in mindset. Same thing happens with many more violent crimes, family always says after the fact that they thought there was something seriously wrong.

Omg lol. You can't be serious???

Where do you think he stole it from? hahaha

The chance of stealing a gun in Aus in close to zero.
Don't bring up your petty Nation. I live in Kennesaw Georgia where they actually have a law that requires you to buy a hand gun (or just a gun), and there has only been around four murders here in around thirty years.
