So I'll jump back into this debate. There are easy solutions to the abnormally high gun related homicides in the United States. These aren't even radical ideas. 1) Reinstate complete ban on assault weapons. 2) Ban gun sales at gun shows that use legal loopholes to avoid background checks. These two look like laws that will become a reality.

But it needs to go further. 3) Much tighter regulation on hand gun sales. 4) Tighter regularion on ammo sales. 5) Moral suasion of the state to make irresponsible gun ownership the equivalent of smoking around your children.

Addressing the mental health issue and impoverished areas where there are high gun related homicides are much more complex. There's also the need to stop the fetishization of firearms.

No.

Switzerland is doing fine with guns.

1) Reinstate complete ban on assault weapons.

1. The first one never banned assault weapons, only made new production ones available to police.
2. You're banning something based on aesthetic features only. What the 1994 AWB covered didn't even affect function, and most manufacturers just built the guns without the features. It's like banning cars from having painted flames.

2) Ban gun sales at gun shows that use legal loopholes to avoid background checks.
Except the "gun show loophole" doesn't exist. In most states, you can make a private sale anywhere. If you're an FFL dealer at a gun show, you're still required to do background checks, and 99% of gun dealers at gun shows are FFL holders because of the cost to actually rent and sell for profit at a gun show.

No.

Switzerland is doing fine with guns.

Switzerland is a small nation state where the population is highly trained and only allowed to purchase up to three guns. Automatic firearms are also banned. Switzerland isn't the USA and gun regulations, also controversial there, aren't as loose as you'd think.

If we're going to compare the USA to other countries it would be apt to compare them to their closest counterparts. That's Canada, Britain, and perhaps Australia.

Gun control is not the issue here. Even if we ban every gun ever, bad people are still going to get their hands on them. They don't follow legal procedures to obtain their weapons. Why don't people understand that? Stricter gun control is only going to hurt the responsible carriers.

Word for word. This is just going to be saved by me for future use.

Guns, guns, guns. It's real easy to talk about guns, isn't it? What will that solve? Violence is violence, no matter what weapon is used. We can ban all the things that are sharp or that go 'boom'. But there will still be people like Adam Lanza with mental disorders that find it necessary to go kill some kids in a school or kill a co-worker or just some person walking down the street. This is not because of guns, this is because of the people behind the gun.

Don't waste my time with your bull-blam!-. Take the other side but don't bull-blam!- me with "the gun show loophole" doesn't exist. You can legally buy handguns, and no not assault weapons, without a background check from private sellers at gun shows. It's a problem. And no, banning assault weapons doesn't just have to do with "aesthetics". Give me a -blam!- break. Are you as thick as the NRA PR? Yeah, banning assault weapons is just like banning flames from being painted on cars. Just forget the '94 bill. I'm talking complete iron clad ban on the sale of assault weapons.

And don't try the morally reprehensible response made earlier in this thread that "There's no problem."

1. Private sells can happen anywhere, not just gun shows, that's why it doesn't exist.
2. If it's not just aesthetics that makes an assault weapon an assault weapon, then what is so different between this, not an assault weapon and this ,what is defined as an assault weapon? Functionally, they're the same rifle.

Circle Jerkin' I got my wiener workin'

I love how celebrities with millions of dollars who live in a gated community with armed security guards are for stricter gun laws.

"I have armed security and body guards to protect me, but I'm in favor of laws that help disarm normal people." This reminds me of how Dianne Feinstein, who is in favor of gun control, had a concealed carry permit herself.

Sounds like a bunch of hypocrites to me.

You're admitting the gun show loophole, as it's defined, happens but because there are other private sales it therefore is a myth? Let's forget semantics though. Private gun sales have to be utterly banned. There can be absolutely no firearm sales without strict background checks.

As for point two you're asking what an assault weapon is? I believe the definition would be one that is semi automatic with a detachable magazine of more than ten rounds. Sales of guns such as that must be banned.

This exactly. Why? People make guns or people make machines to make guns. People use the guns. People die by the gun in which they made.

Because it doesn't fit what you want, it's utterly incorrect to you.

Protip:Rifles make up less homicides than people using their limbs. Assault weapons as they're define are only a small portion of rifles.

You can't compare the US to Canada, UK, or Australia because of those three, 2 have strict weapon bans, and with Canada, guns are not nearly as much a part of the canadian culture, as they are the American.

Discuss it with me then rather than getting upset and posting YouTube videos because you're reduced to slinging mud. Gun related deaths (and I'm talking all gun related deaths regardless of motive) are going to be the number one cause of non-medical deaths in the US. Automobiles are going to be killing less people. That's a pretty serious problem.

I'm replying to these fast as possible so let me fix this and obviously read this too fast and misrepresented what you said.

You can easily compare Canada and the USA. These are very similar countries since regional cultures overlap. For example Washington and BC have more in common than Washington and even California. You do have a lot of cultural overlap making the comparison easy. Guns are part or Canada. Long gun ownership per capita is near identical.

Gun culture doesn't mean the US can't be compared with any other case.

No, no, no they are not. That's totally false. Canada is the closest you'll get to the USA and there is no gun culture. Sure, people hunt and own guns. Long gun ownership per capita is around the same. The gun culture is not the same though. The number of gun related deaths, and I'm scaling populations, aren't even close.

Guns are not a part of Canadian culture as they are American. That statement is unequivocally false.

You said two completely polar opposites in that statement. Come back when you are less flustered and can make coherent statements.
