And does anyone think these laws will disarm anyone other than these good citizens?
Yes. The Sandy Shooter wouldn't have been able to carry out his attack if his mother didn't own three weapons including an assault weapon...
I know there's a statistic out there that says most gun crimes are committed with illegally obtained weapons... but illegally obtained from where? I'm willing to bet the majority of illegally obtained weapons in the US were originally legally owned in the US and NOT smuggled into the country.
Because criminals obviously obey the law.
You think that prisoners want to stay in jail? They can disobey the rules of the prison all they want, but they're not going to be able to jump over the prison walls. If you don't make it possible for a potential criminal to get a weapon... that's the end of it.
Most?
No. The point in obtaining a weapon illegally is NOT so they can get it cheaper. Often times buying a gun off the street is more expensive. The point in buying a weapon illegally is because it's harder to trace. Whether they can trace the weapon back to a legal purchase or a robbery doesn't matter. It still puts the shooter at risk.
As stated before, I'm all for placing regulation stating that licenses should be obtained and safety courses should be passed in order for a civilian to own a firearm, but going to much further than that is only hurting the law abiding citizens, not the criminals.
It would be like a drunk driver slamming his SUV into a van full of children then stating that the only way to fix the problem is to ban all cars.
