Whats the answer to Number 2? BLAHHHH!!!!!! Ok....... BLAH...
My order would have to be this:
Campaign (Story)
ODST>2>CE>3>4>Reach
Odst's story was impeccable, congrats to Joe Staten. I loved every second of it but it did lack in gameplay. And Halo 2 was also very good. I remember hating the developers after me and my friend beat it for the first time because of the ending, but that's what stuck with you. It made you think about it, and I came back wanting more for 3. CE was the first and set a standard but did lack in many parts. 3 was kind of disappointing at first but ended with a bang and was a great way to end the trilogy. But 4 was just incoherent and I disliked it. They expanded too much on what a lot of core gamers had no idea existed and was genuinely hard to follow. Reach ended with a horrible denouement of killing off all of the main characters.
Campaign (Gameplay)
3>2>4>ODST>CE>Reach
3 was the peak of perfection and a result of 7 years of amazing games in both gameplay and multiplayer. It didn't mess with the formula of Halo 2 but rather improved on it. Halo 2's level metropolis is probably the most memorable Halo experience I have. It has an incredibly great level design and is overall fun. 4 was very fun but there was a lot of pressing B to push buttons everywhere. ODST I didn't really enjoy. Looking for you other squad mates in a city alone was a mediocre idea at best. CE would be higher if not for the level the library. Those who've played CE know exactly what I mean. Reach was very disappointing when I played it. They tried adding a Crimson Skies-esque mission which could have been cool if they expanded on the idea. Plus the armor abilities didn't help at all in the campaign which was a disappointment.
Musical Score
ODST>3>2>CE>4>Reach
ODST went in a different direction than the other games and in my opinion it succeeded. I love the 1950's detective feel that Difference for Darkness gives. Halo 3's score was very good. It improved on Halo 2's already pretty good song by adding songs like Never Forget. Many people think of the hard-rocking Mjlonir Mix that made Halo 2's score very popular with core gamers. I have to agree with this general statement. CE introduced a great basis that would be used for 7 years. 4 was excellent but has very good older brothers that it needed to compete with that it just didn't match up to. My favorite is Arrival from the Halo 4 OST. Reach sounded very exotic and I didn't enjoy it very much.
Multiplayer
3>2>CE(lol Lan parties)>ODST>4>Reach
Halo 3's multiplayer was impeccable! I couldn't get enough of it. It rewarded players for playing well, not just participating and it showcased true skill. 2 was indeed a milestone and introduced the online world of Xbox it deathmatch-esque online play. I going to my friend's house every weekend to play CE on his xbox. We'd get everyone in the surrounding are with an xbox and set them up in his living room and just play and play on sidewinder. ODST had so much potential online but because there was no matchmaking system it failed. When I first got Halo 4 I loved it, but when a lot of core gamers bought it and started playing online and OVERusing the power weapons I began to tire of being blown to smithereens by the incineration cannon. And finally Reach ruined the multiplayer. It added an unneeded rock paper scissors mechanic with armor abilities and added a pacing mechanism (bloom) to a fast paced game
Custom Games
3>2>Reach>4
Halo 3 had by far the best custom games. I remember getting in huge lobbies of 16 people and playing Ice Cream Man or Sacrifice. 2 had the core ideas that made 3 so great but it was very experimental, having been the only halo game to have live when it came out. I never really got into custom games in either Reach or 4 so I don't have much to say about them
Forge
3>4>Reach
Halo 3 had the best forge simply because not just anyone could forge. The Halo 3 Forger was an artist who could weave his ideas into maps using geomerging, a highly exploited glitch. Both Halo 4 and Reach made forging too easy and I lost respect for most forgers in Reach. The only reason 4 is above reach is because of the shading that happens when you change from editor to spartan, however tedious.
