I'm sure most of you know I love Halo 4. I thought it was a great game and all of you bashing it is silly. I thought it had the best campaign of all Halo's easily.
However, I still am a firm believer that Reach is the pinnacle of Halo. All of you seem to just nitpick strongly on points like Bloom, Armor Lock, etc., but it by far was the most polished and content-filled of all Halo games.
- Campaign was solid. I still think Halo 4's and 2's was better, but the gameplay in Reach's was excellent. Varied missions, atmospheric, fantastic score, and all in all excellent gameplay. I think people are too upset with the story to realize how well the gameplay is. (And please, the story had to be changed a little, it would be impossible to have a good story and gameplay mix based around The Fall of Reach).
- Firefight was excellent. This is a no brainer but people still think ODST's was better for some reason. I didn't realize having more maps, gameplay options, weapons, enemy variety, and matchmaking made it worse? People let their hate for one playlist (Arcadefight) influence their thoughts on the entire idea.
- By far the best Custom Games. I know people insisted that Halo 3's was better, but that's just nostalgia talking. There were so many gamemodes and so much customization in Reach, you could do literally whatever you wanted for custom games. There were so many excellent Custom Games for Reach. The excellent Forge World was amazing as well. People hate on it for (derrrr Gray World), but any good Forger can make maps looks amazing.
I'm saddened that Halo 4 has removed so much custom options as well as having limiting Forge maps.
Discuss what you guys think of as the best Halo game. My order?
Reach > Halo 2 > Halo 4 > Halo CE > Halo 3
(Based on combinations of everything, like campaign, customs, matchmaking, etc.) Ok start from the top. Halo reaches campaign was quite
Linear. I have yet to play any game prelude that I find exciting. I most likely will feel the same about the new gears game. The characters in the campaign were dull and after I played it once I had no reason to touch it again except for slaso. Replayabilty is a huge part of campaign modes for
Me it just simply wasn't there. Firefight I have no complaints. All original maps not dull like spec ops. Again custom games and forge were good minus the fact forge
World was the only palette. You talked about the upsides but forget to mention the negative points. Multiplayer in itself. While I agree that default it isn't near as luck based as halo 4 compared to previous games is was much worse. Bloom was mainly connection based much more noticeable than bullet spread from halo 3. There was no individual skill gap, and you had to rely on your team majority of the time. There was no trueskill in halo reach. Armor lock slowed gameplay and created a cod style
Camping gameplay. So while I can agree halo 5 is much worse than reach. Reach wasn't very good itself limiting the trueskill system, arena being a failed playlist.343 taking out most dlc maps customers paid for. Halo is changing and I have given up on trying to understand why these changes were implemented in both games. The thing that saved reach a bit was reach Mlg but again it was about team skill not individual skill.
