I've only played Skyward Sword, but I think that's enough to judge the whole series. That's a very hasty and unfortunate mistake to make, because Skyward Sword is nowhere near the potential of the Legend of Zelda series. The hardware for the Wii Motion Plus is buggy, forcing you to recalibrate every few minutes, the potential of the sky world is mostly wasted as all the action occurs on the surface, a lot of the level design is interesting but there are just so many problems plaguing the game.Yeah, the motion controls were a big problem for me. If the game wasn't designed with them in mind, and I could actually use a Gamecube controller, it wouldn't have been as frustrating.
So, the other Zelda games are nowhere near as bad?I wouldn't say they are as bad, but then again I grew up with the series so I assume there is a certain amount of nostalgia in my judgement.
They have their ups and downs, and I like each for different reasons. Ocarina of Time set up the entire premise of 3D Zelda Games nicely, Majora's Mask nailed the theming and the story of the world, exploring the ocean in Windwaker was a ton of fun, and I guess I enjoyed the art style of Twilight Princess?
For sure, this is the first Zelda game that had issues with the consistancy of the controls, and again I feel that was more due to Wii Motion Plus than the game itself, because they had basic motion controls in Twilight Princess and things never got quite as messed up as they did in Skyward Sword.
Apparently they have that problem fixed now, because on the Wii U there's a game called Nintendo Land where you take your Mii through a Nintendo Theme Park with 12 different minigames. One of the Minigames seems to be an on-rails adventure inspired by Legend of Zelda, which features simillar controls to Skyward Sword (1 to 1 sword motion) that actually works and doesn't require constant calibration. The Game Grumps have a video which shows them playing the game and it's very clear that it's way more fluid than it was in Skyward Sword.

If you're serious, then I'm curious, how long did you play the game? I'm not intending to play the "You clearly haven't played enough of the game to judge it!" / "If you played the game for this long then clearly you enjoyed it!" card, I'm just interested in how much of the game you played before you quit.Truth is, I only played the last third of it. I helped a friend of mine finish it.Interesting.
I haven't finished off Skyward Sword myself yet (I think I'm halfway to 2/3rds of the way through?), so I wouldn't know for sure, but Zelda games tend to start off very strong from a story / interesting mechanics standpoint and tend to slope downward from there as you approach the endgame. It's a common theme not only with Zelda, but many games on the market these days.
If you only played the final third, then it's no wonder you were left with a poor impression of the series, it's much easier to be optimistic when you see the potential of the initial premise, and then feel dissapointment as the game progresses.
Skyward Sword definitely felt more like a proof of concept game than a final product, which is a shame.
