Subject: Do better graphics make a game more fun to play?

Good graphics don't make a game good, but bad graphics can potentially ruin a game. There is a certain expectation of graphics depending on the type of game. If that expectation is not met, or rather, completely missed, to the extent that it greatly distracts from the other elements of the game, it necessarily follows that the game can be determined to be a bad game.

It's definitely a plus to have, but gameplay and/or story are more important aspects to me in a game.

I know my ways. So just stay back.

It doesn't make the game, but I do think games are better with better graphics.

how is hamd?

For me graphics are an important part of my gameplay. But it really just depends on the game.

I was thinking about this while playing a little Chrono Trigger on my phone. For me at least, games were more fun when gameplay was emphasized over graphics. In my opinion, games today focus too much on graphics and less on gameplay and story.

Your title and opening post are contradictory

You know the title was a question right?

Yes...the question of the title and then the topic of the opening post are about two different things. Derp.

If you question is "are graphics more important than gameplay and story", then no.

If you question is "do better graphics make for a better game", then of course. Videogames are about immersing yourself in another world. That world in a higher visual quality is only going to improve that immersion.

Depends, graphics can effect gameplay, like if the graphics are so bad that you can't properly play the game (I mean like obstructed views, colours blending in with other textures they shouldn't be, etc, etc) then yes they make it worse.

But so long as the graphics don't stop you from playing the game then no they don't. Graphics may be a little prettier to look at if they are good but they're not killer. I mean look back at the original halo and look at it now, the graphics have vastly improved but that doesn't make it any less good, I mean you can go back as far games for the atari and still apply the same concept.

Funny thing is for all it's wonderful graphics I actually found they made it harder for me to play and enjoy the game, I always had trouble spotting enemies cause they always blended in with the environment, not enough colours.
