Though the morrow may be barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return.
Ok, I am going to list why I thought these didn't make my GOTY and do my best to avoid spoils.
AC3- It was an all around fun game, amazing multiplayer, but the ending really upset me. So much in fact that it lost its chance as my GOTY.
B2- Was fun while it lasted, but it didn't have anything to keep my interested and anchored, especially compared to the barage of games that came right after.
Blops 2- It was ok, as usual I blow at multiplayer, but it was still enjoyable. Alright story line and even had my fav band make a cameo, but it still felt like more of the same Cod. It is hard to make that line between innovation and copy paste when it comes to sequel, and unfortunately blops didn't hit it.
Dishonored- fun game, even reminded me of bioshock a bit. My issue is though that I ruined the game for myself by making my first playthrough the nonviolent one. It takes the joy out whenever your first time you don't kill a soul.
Halo 4- Fun game that is a part of my favorite gaming franchise, but it has some issues as well. The gametypes have recceeded since reach and that makes it feel more limited in what it can do. MM playlists are constantly updated, but some of my preferred gametypes may or may not be there whenever these updates hit. Ie, snipers was only in for a week when it first showed up. Also the game was centered around catering to fans who read or watched the halo lore outside the games, rather than people who only play the games. It don't matter how long you played halo games for, if you didn't read the books you would have no idea who or what the didact was beyond being a forerunner.
ME3- I haven't had the pleasure of playing it, though I have heard great things and will at some point in the future. However, I have heard about the ending and looked into it. Didn't seem like a good choice, especially since a better ending was made as a dlc due to popular demand.
Far Cry 3- Ok, this game is fun. I enjoyed the theme very much. Let's be real on this though, had it not been for Vaas and the insanity touch, the game would not be nearly as fun. Vaas is your bridge to the insanity as it slowly envelops you. He is one of the most memorable characters I think I've ever seen in a game. Without him, I honestly feel this game would have felt a little more generic. Like I said though, great game, but because of this it falls short as well.
CS- Have not played nor heard details, thus I can't see labeling it as my GOTY.
In the end, mine goes to (drumroll) X-Com: Enemy Unknown. Yes you heard me, X-Com. I found this game very enjoyable. Lost of fun all around and very challenging if you aren't on your toes. Wasn't the longest of games, and it didn't provide as many memorable moments as AC3 or H4 did for me, but something just draws me in to say it wins my GOTY this time around.
