No, modern feminists really want more rights than men. I'm on my mobile at the moment, but I have plenty of examples on my laptop - Give me a moment

It isn't, but some of the connotations are.

This. In theory it's wonderful. In practice, a portion of vocal femi-nazzistend to be louder than actual feminists, and thus draw hate for all feminists.

So would you openly donate to a group called "masculinists" if they represented equality?
There are men's rights activists. Amongst causes they support: the right to -blam!- women and go unpunished because men shouldn't be expected to control their libidos, the exclusion of women from professional fields and high-paying jobs, and the right of men to beat their spouses.

I don't think I'd want to be involved with a group of people like that, no.

Now, do I think women deserve the right to beat their spouses? No. Do I think they should be allowed to -blam!- men and get away with it because they can't control their sex drives? Absolutely not. Do I think men should be kept out of professional fields and high-paying jobs? Not even slightly. Would I support any group that advocated for such causes? Over my dead body.

But that's not what feminism is.

Women still get paid less than men on average, we still crack jokes telling girls to get back into the kitchen to make us a sandwich.

Competitiveness is why men get paid more. Its nature

Also, I crack more jokes about my male coworkers than female coworkers because I dont want to get hit with a sexual abuse lawsuit.

Actual definition of the word "feminist".

And not practiced by every feminist in the real world.

Feminism has been bastardized by both sides of the fence. On one side, we see some feminists who shamefully wrong the true meaning of the word feminism. They are grotesque activists who would rather seek revenge than proper retribution for past actions of men. (As in, not the true perpetrators of crimes against the general populous of women). They are obviously not representative of the entire community, but enough so that there is that stereotype in place.

On the other side of the fence, we see those who don't understand the true nature of feminism, which is to seek liberty for all genders, sexes, etc. They pigeonhole feminists as all being the aforementioned extremists who don't represent the true members. Those who marginalize the feminists are no better than the feminist extremists themselves.

It's also due in part, as I have seen from my own personal experiences, that some feminists simply won't hear the opinions of anyone who does not conform to their own opinion, and makes vague, generalized and sometimes unfounded statements. (See opinions on men's rights groups)

I always think that if women were in control of everything we men would all be underground. That probably won't happen but for some reason I think that.

So you're basically saying that you'd rather follow feminists, instead of masculinists, even if they both supported equality.

Why don't we just call equality-minded people 'equalists', instead of feminists (or masculinists)?

I r guy who gun to teach u lesson

If I was female I'd hate to be called a feminist. Sure maybe when woman's rights were just being largely pushed for it would be proper to call a woman who fights for female rights that, but now and days being called something like an egalitarian is much better. It shows you don't focus on one side.

Plus there are a lot of extreme people out there (for everything, not just feminism)....national male castration day...oh god.

So because there are a few bad apples you choose to not support their fight for equal rights. Then why do you even support feminists?

  • 12.22.2012 8:10 PM PDT

That's because a lot of feminists are not looking forward to equal rights, but only to more rights for women.

Most recent example for me: In Germany they actually punched through you have to have a certain percentage of woman in the higher positions of a company, regardless of qualification. A hard-working man (could be you or me) is declined for the position because he is a man. THAT is equality now?

Same reason we don't call LGBT rights activists "-blam!-ity activists". The term reflects the marginalised and disenfranchised group.

Oh, Jay. You're going to get double the crap now.
If people want to hate on me because I support women's rights, they're quite welcome to. That's a reflection on them and their values, not on me and mine.

I am unashamedly in support of women's rights, PoC rights, LGBT rights, the rights of the disabled, and the rights of any other disenfranchised groups in society. I donate my money to those causes and volunteer my time and effort in support of them. I don't care who knows it, and I don't care what they think of me because of it. People dislike me for plenty of illegitimate reasons already. If they want to add this to the list, they can be my guest.

This. So much this. I welcome anyone to try and debate this.

To all the haters, you are wrong. You are as wrong as any prejudiced person has ever been wrong. You will continue to be wrong and it is my hope that you will see that and be willing to engage in a movement that helps to bring women and all other marginalized peoples to the equal footing they deserve.

And how about Christine Wallace?Christine Wallace was openly critical of Germaine Greer, who is actually crazy. That puts her on the right side of at least one issue. I don't agree with her left-wing politics because I'm a political conservative, but I can't find evidence that she's said anything blatantly anti-male.
