And all of these mentioned that what they major in is a big factor in the gap. Try more, fgt.

How does that change the fact that they're paid less?

Hijacked? No. Tainted? Yes. Ask any average man. They'll tell you how much they think feminists are crazy -blam!-es. You wouldn't dare tell another guy you're a feminist, he might get the impression you're gonna chop off your own dick. It's derogatory at this point, and that's clear to anybody who pays attention to the world around them.

That's not because of 'extremist feminists', it's because of the straw feminists MRAs and other anti-feminists create.

Think of it like mean, median and mode. There are different ways of calculating the average income. In these articles, it is not really looking at field specifics, such as those comparing female retail managers to male retail managers, but rather female lawyer and female cashier to male doctor and male farm hand. It isn't field specific, so it doesn't do much good. Thus, if men are going for jobs that are higher paying, of course there will be a wage gap.

While there is inequality amongst men and women in the specific fields, these articles aren't helping much.

I don't consider it dirty. Just like how I don't consider liberal dirty. However I do consider them both highly unintelligent people.
Because generalizing is okay as long as you understand the definition of the groups you generalize?

Here's a protip that makes life so much easier to handle: nearly every theory and belief has a takeaway, be it from its wisdom or its errors, and people who follow a belief you don't necessarily agree with are no less intelligent automatically, only in possession of some knowledge that you don't have. Look for people who debate to find this, not people who just criticize.

I think it's because people associate female supremacy with feminism, which are two completely different ballparks.

While I admit the sources are probably not the end-all be-all of the argument, I was in a bind to show him evidence where they simply assumed I had none.

While there is no field specific data I can find it absolute, extensive terms, that doesn't disqualify the idea of discrimination against women in terms of compensation. Women aren't earning less solely because they take lesser jobs. Women haven't conveniently just decided to pursue lesser jobs, they receive lower pay as an extension for being frequently passed over, not considered or removed from higher paying positions because of their gender.

Women having lesser pay is the effect of the causes of lesser jobs, lesser opportunity, not the other way around.

That just shows that there's an inequality due to greater social forces than simple discrimination.

Let me put it this way, liberals are smart when it comes to social issues but dumb when it comes to everything else that governs or is applied to our way of life. I've debated liberals and seen liberals debate. Always the same thing. Take their beliefs over logical application and don't even factor in how the world works. A good example is how I can tell them the economic issues of some things and they retort with personal ideology.
You're still failing to see my point.

No conservative has ever done this? Really? In your argument right now you've taken the exact type of behavior you use to generalize and used it against yourself.

I ask for consideration of all people in a group, not just immense extrapolation. You told me of your personal examples and how it applies to the belief that all in a group follow this line of thinking.

How is the failure to include equal treatment for more than half of the world not one of the "bigger issues" in your mind?

Prejudice stays prejudice because people don't challenge it. It's like the quote, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing."

No, sexism is sexism regardless of who does it.

I have as much a problem as the bias towards mothers in cases of custody battles as I do the bias towards men in compensation.

They can't even figure out what to do about the crazies shooting everyone, the issues in the Middle East or the economy and you're whining about this? Grow the hell up. Let's fix the real issues then you can whine about how much money you make.

You're implying my gender one way or the other, something I've never specified.

There's more to gender inequality than compensation. There's violence towards women, laws against women and cultures where misogyny is bred, such as with Middle East extremism.

I'm not whining about anything, I'm just in disbelief that people would selectively ignore an issue that deals with more people than a regional conflict or a issue behind guns. The economy only stands to benefit from equality as well. How can you be so rude to assume that 3.5 billion people's issues don't matter because you're worried about some issues over others.

Women's equality is more important than stopping people from causing massacres according to most of you. Oh God. It's like the last thing this country needs to worry about. Quit your bit*ching and appreciate what you have. Some countries don't even have clean water to drink.

Not necessarily. It just means that, on their own accordance, women and men are entering different field, actually. In a democratic society, one can only be nudged, not pushed, into a specific field. No one told me I had to go to University for psychology and law. That was my choice. There are always, no matter what, going to be some differences in men and women. Just because they exist does not entail automatically they are pushed upon by society.

Most understandable. I understand the point you were highlighting, and I wish I had my notes from a world issues class that showed specifically the differences in men and women pay in 1st world nations. They are closing, rapidly I might add, but they still do exist.

What I cannot necessarily, in all instance, agree on is that women having lesser jobs. Again, I can only refer to my countries statistics, as I have little/no interest in American, Aussie or some Euro nations.

An interesting infographic, with source.

You are again assuming my gender.

You're assuming that women's inequality is an American issue? Or an issue contained to one country? I'm not arguing solely for women's rights and feminism on the basis of women not getting paid as much. I'm arguing for women's rights and feminism so women around the world don't have to be bought, enslaved, traded, beaten, assaulted by sex, killed, mistreated, oppressed, circumcised, burned by fire, burned by acid, maimed, tortured, or hated. Much like I would argue against all of those things for men.

If arguing for the rights of half the world is not an issue to you, I have nothing more to say to you.

I read those infographics and see the point they're making, and I also agree with it. I still do believe the gap in pay is partially explained by discrimination, but at the very least I very much appreciate your decency in this debate. It is refreshing. If you ever get those notes I would for you to PM me and talk about this some more, I'm always up for this sort of discussion.

I'm without gender for the purpose of this thread. My point is to show that feminism does not need a gender because it is not advocating than anything less than equality for all genders.

Would it impact your decision if I were a man for feminism moreso than if I were a woman (not an accusatory question, I'm honestly curious)?

This. Feminists want men to apologize for being male. They see all men as evil and potential r@pists
