My english teacher (though not as radical as some feminists) has us read every book through a "feminist lens" which basically means go through and find all the reasons men are useless pieces of -blam!- in literature. I'm sure that those were the exact words that she used
No, obviously not. You can infer this from my use of the word "basically". If you're going to be fickle and asinine I'm not going to discuss this with you.Ah, so what I'm guessing that your teacher 'basically' said was to read things from a different perspective to that which you normally take into reading. To realise that most studied literature is written from a male perspective which often marginalises women. For example, one of the most famous novels written by a woman, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, is itself written from a male perspective and silences the novel's women because of the male-dominated society that Shelley was raised in, and that all of the literature that she read was male-centric.
Is this the kind of thing that your feminist teacher has you do?Nope. She has us go through literature and pick apart all the shortcomings and faults of men and shows us how, in the novels we read, women really have all the power. Even when it makes no sense.
