“I didn't want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that's really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you're so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare.”
So on Monday, he was on his way home, walking through the middle school as a shortcut (rather than going around, since it's warmer in there and he's a lazy-ass), when he saw 4 or 5 other kids up ahead.
It only took him a moment to recognize 3 of them as the "gansta hood kids" of the town. One of them (we'll call him DopeLyfe for the sake of keeping everyone's names safe) had gotten kicked out of school, had gone to Washington, and came back (at least temporarily). Apparently, he had actually joined up with a gang in Washington, so I suppose he was an actual gangster. The second guy was just a lazy idiot who smokes all day and tries to intimidate other kids, and the third was a freshman (the other two are sophomores, as my nephew is) who just kinda tags along and tries to act tough.
So, anywho, they were pushing around one of the other kids (another freshman, kind of nerdy looking, but tries to act cool and stuff. We'll call him Bill). I don't know what started their quarrel, but the two older guys were making threatening moves towards Bill, trying to push him over, and backing off again. This went on for a little bit, but Bill didn't really back down. He stood his ground.
Mp nephew said it almost looked like DopeLyfe was going to actually try to fight Bill, so he kinda stepped in, trying to calm them down before something bad happened. "Hey guys, calm down." he just tried to wave them off. DopeLyfe kinda looked at him for a couple of seconds, then he and the two others just turned around and continued walking down the hallway.
After he thanked my nephew, Bill and him also started walking about 10 feet behind the gansta squad. Attempting to brighten the mood, he started poking fun at the fashion choices of DopeLyfe. Within a couple of seconds, Bill had brightened up and was laughing along with him. He then made a pun about the way DopeLyfe wore his pants around his thighs, and comically waddled forward, saying "Yo dawg, we gon' kill dat -blam!-." (By the way, DopeLyfe uses the 'N word' an alarming amount.)
Unfortunately, DopeLyfe caught wind of his joking. He immediately stopped and turned on them. Apparently, though, he thought that Bill had said it and looked as if he was about to dive on top of Bill and rip his arms off or something to that effect. Accompanying him were his educated words, "Yo -blam!-, yall wanna get killed?"
Seeing the urgency of the situation, he calmly told DopeLyfe "Actually, that was me."
DopeLyfe stopped in his tracks and turned towards him with a "Whatchu said dawg?"
"It was I that made fun of you. I apologize." he replied.
DopeLyfe seemed to size him up, staring at him for several seconds, his fists clenched and unclenched again. After a moment, he said unto my nephew the words...
"Yo dawg, I know you know people, but I will still hit you."
Yet he seemed to be in no mood to fight my nephew (which was probably a good choice on his part, he is undoubtedly dehydrated and fatigues quickly, and I has multiple years of Taekwondo experience.) so he simply apologized to him once more and they all headed our separate ways, Bill saved and disaster averted.
...
My nephew had no idea that he "knew people"...Apparently, unbeknownst to me, he has gained high reputation in the hood society.
Sooo what do you guys think about that?
