I'm looking to buy a decent laptop before I go to college.

What I want:
- Battery Life (6-8 hours)
- Discrete Graphics Card(Good enough to run GTA and other popular multiplayer games)
- Built in SSD would be nice(not hybrid). The option to install one would suffice though
- Nice keyboard, decent touchpad
- Portable (not all that important, but still nice)

Mos of the laptops in the Lenovo U series look nice enough, but I'm wondering if the flood knows anything better out there.

I've got up to $1100 to spend. Any ideas?

XPS 14?

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

Get the thin one.

From the ashes

If you want a starting point, use Newegg to start your search. They have good deals for decent enough machines sometimes.

I have this one. Its well under your budget, but you can choose to upgrade many of the internal components when you order it. I got it with the 650 2gb, 12gb RAM, extended battery, 1920x1080 screen, and a backlit keyboard. Its awesome.

Gaming wise, it can run Battlefield 3 on high settings at around 50 FPS. Battery lasts about 9 hours when not gaming. Its a great laptop and i highly suggest you look into it.

This, or an XPS 15z. I'm using it right now. Very light, stylish, has a back-lit keyboard

How's the touchpad? And does it really last 9 hours?

I have this, It's a good labtop that I got from a different seller who beefed it up a little but only works in canada, and I set it to pay $50 every pay so it's worth the price, at least for me that is... the only thing is dat battery life.

Have not had a problem with the touchpad yet, works really well. On a full charge, the battery will last 8 and a half hours or so of general use. Gaming will significantly lower that amount to about 4 hours.

I have it as well. Great computer, but you might have overheating if you play GTA with a lot of mods.

Butter my ass, turn around, spread open my butt cheeks, and say "Right here mutha-blam!-a!!"

Join Planetary Annihilation and Speed Haven

It's 15", which may be a tad big, but it's good on the rest
Battery life while just browsing is probably between 4 and 6 hours though :\

You're either first or you're last.

You'll never amount to anything, go back under your bridge.

For simplicity, I agree with this.
