On this land, I am torn. Part of me wants to fight and repel all outsiders. The other part of me is the outsider.

Of course! Who else did he really speak to since Halo: CE?
EDIT: It's like she is a main component of him as a 'machine'.

Master Chief was bred for war but I think he felt something when Cortana died.

I'm not so good with advice...Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Cortana, well Halsey, was the only person the Chief really ever had a personal connection to, so when she died, he was truly devastated.

Halsey is still alive, though.
So can't Chief simply get her back by getting her neural pattern again?

Everything that Cortana was is still in Halsey.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

Not really, the new Cortana won't have all of the memories that the old one had.

I think they should continue the series with her the way she was in halo 3. Faint and cryptic messages being sent to chiefs hud.

Haha no no no no. I don't want Cortana's body blocking my view of the combat. I hated that in Halo 3, the same thing with Gravemind doing that also.

心の中に弱い風が吹いています。

That's the whole point. Make Chief human.

  • 12.22.2012 9:46 PM PDT

Poor Cheif, wanted to find a way to get it in with Cortana for so many years...

I felt sorry for him. His voice sounded so cold at the end when he said:

"She said that to me once. About being a machine."

As if someone ripped a large part of his soul and then shat on it. Did he really care that much for her?
I really feel like Lasky needed to have heard that line and responded to in some way to make it sound not so dumb.

It's a perfectly fine line, but Chief saying it to himself felt really out of character. The dude never speaks, much less to himself.

Whoops, I forgot all about that.
There goes my master plan.

Actually, he was bred as a normal child on Eridanus II. Taken into the mysterious SPARTAN-II program.

Spartan 117, reporting for duty, sir.

Can you think up something better for lasky to have said? He was right anyway. And chief said that to himself because lasky helped him come to a realization and that what he said reminded him of cortana.
The problem wasn't what he said, it was the fact that he didn't say anything and wasn't even there. If he had just stuck around and said even, "She probably knew something, Chief." I would have been okay.

It was such a great moment for character development (and still is) only to be kind of distracting because it felt forced out of character rather than actual evolution.
