Subject: Most Addicting Story RPG Games?

Thane and Mordin <3

I might get some new RPG's for myself as a present, but I wasn't sure what RPG's have the most in-depth story. I haven't playerd Mass Effect at all and thought maybe Mass Effect Trilogy. The most in-depth RPG I've played so far is Morrowind. But I'm looking for a better story, something that drags you in. Please feel free to tell me!

Steam

Best stories?

Deus Ex
System Shock
Baldur's Gate
Planescape: Torment
KoTOR
Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines

I think those are the best stories you'll get out of RPGs.

probably the Mass Effect Trilogy, or maybe the combined lore of the Elder Scroll games.

It's kinda more laid back and humorous but Borderlands 2 is an excellent RPG. Or you can play, um, Skyrim maybe.

To be honest there hasn't been any good hardcore RPG's this year.

I've played all the Elder Scrolls (<3 them). I think ME Trilogy is highest on my list atm.

Yes! If you want a story-oriented RPG Mass Effect is a must! Can't stress that enough. Amazing trilogy. Amazing right until the last ten minutes! Unfortunately, but yeah!

The first game takes awhile to pick up but as soon as the plot twist comes in (and you'll know when it does ;] ) you'll probably be stuck onto the TV for the next 6-8 hours right until the end. Then instantly go out and buy ME2. Finish that in two weeks and eagerly anticipate ME3. Wat, only me?

Also just keep in mind that the last 10 minutes completely ditches every single major theme in the trilogy and gives you an ending aimed at another completely unrelevant theme that leaves the ending less than unsatisfying. You will get mad.

Does anyone know anything about Divine Divinity or the Divinity series as a whole? I picked up the first game on sale on Steam yesterday. I really want to know how it matches up to other RPGs.

The last ten minutes are fine. What people seemed to have failed to understand was that the entire game was the culmination of all your choices, while the absolute ending sequence had somewhat less information than desired, the concept wasn't bad. The extended ending works well. The only real negative part of it was that it leaves too much open for imagination; I wanted to know more about what happened afterwards.

Might get that with a future installment, so I am fully satisfied with the third game.

Thank you for this. I am definitely getting the Mass Effect Trilogy now. I am sincerely excited to play it!

how is "introduce new character in final 4 minutes, usurp shepard's importance, eliminate player's ability to respond in dialogue, and insert unexplained space magic that negates all themes of free will and ethics," *anything* other than a fundamentally idiotic concept?

Yeah, what you said was fine. Like I said, the only problem I have is it throws the theme out the window straight at the end. So I don't ruin the story for OP, I'm going to compare it to a Halo trilogy where you go through each game being told the Flood is a universal menace and problem, then having Guilty Spark fly in your face at the end and tell you humans are evil and the Flood is good. Or something.

I always understood the entire game was the culmination of your choices, I still get pissed off at people who thought the end was going to involve all choices or something. To be honest the information given with the extended cut was fine with me, so the only problem I really have is the theme. THE THEME DAMMIT! It's so hard to accept what we got when there's all these Indoctrination, Dark Energy and Unity theories going around that make the ending seem so more exciting!

Especially Dark Energy. Given that theory was the original choice for the Reapers' reasoning and the entire plot of ME2 circled around Dark Energy in the end, it boggles me why they dropped it.

Dark energy would have been pretty rad.

Also Mass Effect general?

Mass Effect general.

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

In terms of pure story, Morrowind is probably the best game of all time to this day. Just... Just don't come at it hoping for the sort of quality gameplay mechanics of TES 4 or 5.... It's very... ummm... 2003.

That said, Oblivion and Skyrim both have great stories (Skyrim is downright AMAZING in story, and the whole thing is LOADED with lore-treats.)

Mass Effect has some cool story stuff going for it. If you really like that 80's scifi aesthetic and styling, you're in for a good time.
