Subject: Would you rather play a game which is very easy or very difficult?

"Right now it is raining methane on Titan. The planet Uranus is, hilariously, orbiting the sun sideways while Venus spins backwards. We sit here on a planet marked with collisions, rocked by earthquakes, shaken by storms. A planet doomed to be fried in radiation as its magnetic fields collapse, until the sun grows and leaves nothing of the earth but dust. Here we sit, glasses on our noses, inhalers in our pockets, braces on our teeth, and we say "Behold the perfect ORDER of it all!""

Which one?

A game which offers very little to no challenge for you to play and beat, or a game which is very difficult for you to play?

Clarification: By very difficult I mean a game which just offers a difficult challenge. It's not hard through means such as game breaking glitches, poor frame rate or crappy controls.

I enjoy playing both, but I prefer games that are challenging.

Congratulations. You're literate!

Difficult. I'd get bored with an easy game.

Really depends on my mood.
I like a challenge, gives a great sense of accomplishment, but sometimes you have just had a stressful day and want something easy and relaxing to play.

  • 12.23.2012 5:44 AM PDT

By 'very difficult' do you mean frustrating or challenging? Because there is a difference between the two.

The Secret Society 95% of activity is me, I could use some help.

Very Easy, if it has a lot of secrets to find and a lot of enemies I can obliterate. Those are way more fun than a hard challenge that I have no fun beating.

  • 12.23.2012 5:44 AM PDT

Difficult. There is nothing more annoying than a complex game with tactics, potions, magic, attachments, enhancements, skills etc that are completely worthless because the game is so easy.

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

Very hard. Has anyone played those recent MegaMan games (ZX advent), with the Easy, Normal, and Hard? Easy is baby mode, Normal is bullcrap mode, and Hard is practically -bIam!-.

And I loved that game once I got the hang of it. It is fun, challenging, and the sheer fact that I get through something is rewarding.

Depends on my mood, also on the game. I don't want a story-driven game which is extremely difficult.

Agreed. With an easy game there is no replay value to it IMO.

Unsuccessfully trying to bring science and reason to The Flood...

Very Difficult.

But not stupidly so. Most game developers these days think that a hard game means throwing stupid situations at the player. Like COD veteran mode where there are infinite respawning enemies that can kill you in 1 shot. That isn't challenging, it's more luck based.

Or the Dead Space 2 example, where the hardest mode is only hard because it doesn't let you save more than 3 times in the whole game. That is utter bull-blam!-!

A very hard game is fun if you have to use your brain to outsmart the enemy and win, or in racing games, where you have to perfect your skill in order to beat the AI by 1-2 secs. That is actually fun.

Very difficult. I need a challenge, then when I finish the game, I get a great sense of accomplishment.

Edit: Super Meat Boy being a good example.

True. I think a good example of a story driven game with the right difficulty is L.A. Noire. Definitely story driven, especially the last few desks, and it's not too easy to beat, while also not too hard.

I also like in that game, the better you are the more of the story you get. Like if you can easily tell when someone's lying. But if you really stuck and can only get 1 or 2 questions right, you still get the general story.

A game which offers very little to no challenge for you to play and beat,

Damn. You described Skyrim perfectly. Anyway I would rather have a very difficult game. There's no fun in playing a game I can't beat with my eyes closed. And never get better at it because of that. Look at Skyrim. It's hard to get better at it when it's holding your hand the entire time.

He's hardly being edgy. It's not a difficult game.
