Subject: When Do You Think 343 Will Reintroduce The Flood?

I am an orange mist amongst a sea of blue, so my flames may stand out and represent all those who trully believe in this great sacriment of Bungie history, let my story be told as the only legendary still standing even after I fall Just as my comrades did so graciously to fight for the true loyal.
If you have legendary, would you stand by my side and go forth into a sea blue and demise as my brothers fighting for those who are trully loyal to Bungie?

I could definitely see them in mid to late Halo 5 so in Halo 6 we know exactly what the enemy will be right away. I'm also assuming we're going back onto Halo now that they discovered the actual location of the other rings. I wouldn't be surprised if the Flood decide to join in again and actually for some reason side with the chief again.

Unsuccessfully trying to bring science and reason to The Flood...

I hope not. Flood haven't been done right since H:CE, and that is mainly because they were introduced as a new enemy completely unexpectedly. The first time playing through 343 guilty spark at age 10, was the scariest gaming experience I've ever had.

Flood has frankly bored me in H2/3.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I'm expecting them with the return of the Precursors. Possibly late into Halo 5 if I had to guess.

This is a very good point but 343 had a really serious and dark style with H4, this could make their take on The Flood take the same path.

Think of Dead Space, the Necromorphs are basically the same thing but are far more gruesome and scary. I'm not suggesting Halo go all Dead Space but they could definitely make The Flood a bit more menacing.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

If there's any direction I'd like the Flood to take, it's the one from The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor. Stranger and harder to grasp, might be a better direction, rather than the trendy darker, if they are to change at all.

EDIT:
It would be a true next-gen challenge if 343i decided to make the Flood something else than just units; make it into a living environment that expanded and retracted dynamically, and occasionelly spat out regular enemies. The Flood equivalent of a vehicle would be a mass of meat and limbs, similar to the one described in Primordium, and if it got a hold of a Warthog or something it would infest it and sprout legs and run after you.

Anyone else feel that if the Flood is to change, it should be in a really creative way?

I just thought of something weird. What if a Flood vehicle would be like a mini rancor Flood thing with a combat form on top riding it with a rocket launcher? I guess similar to the LotR rat-dog things. I think that would be interesting.

Edit: I also just remembered Vault 22 from FNV. The enemies spawn from the plants. They should implement this for the Flood. It would be freaky.

I actually really love this idea, I felt like the Cortana level from Halo 3 was a massive waste of resources on that front. The rooms were made of Flood biomass, they could have had enemies spawn from the walls, environments changing etc and your idea for flood vehicles would be really fantastic from both a gameplay and canon perspective.

A thing that would help increase the atmosphere when enountering the Flood, especially in infested areas, would be if the radar detected various sizes of movement, and displayed them after size and intensity. That would keep the player on its toes, and also eliminate the need of making them look scarier, since it would automatically make one more paranoid. A Flood infested area should never be completely void of movement on the radar unless one has scorched the surroundings with fire and plasma.

Flood, riding Flood? Great idea! Or maybe they could combine with each other. One would only need three classes (plus infection form). 3x3=9 different types of Flood. A diverse and confusing cluster of random limbs and meat.Posted by: I Judge Bread I

It would make the flamethrower more usefull too, instead of just increasing its damage. It felt really off the way one could one-hit-kill by just tapping out a little puff, in Halo 3.

Tubas Represent!

They were much better than the Prometheans.

Personally, I really want to see the Halo 2 era Flood. They were most dangerous Flood out of all 3 original games because of their melee, the fast speed, and ability to pilot vehicles(both human and Covenant) such as the the scorpion.

My second choice would have to be the CE era Flood.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

On the topic of how to bring the Flood back into the games, I'm partial to some of the things we've seen in the Anniversary terminals and Halo 4's Flood mode.

When I say this, I mean the more "feral" sounds that the Flood make in the Halo 4 gametype, and also the eerieness they had in the "Keyes" terminal (emerging through putrid mist in the mind of Keyes).

Basically, I think we all want to see the kind of Flood that brought down Ancient Humanity AND the Forerunners.

Flood always made me uneasy, so I especially loved battling them in the original trilogy. I was disappointed at their absence in Reach and Halo 4.

I think 343 will find that half a planet is better than no planet at all.

if they had a half of a planet it would be better than no planet to reintroduce the flood.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I hope not. The FLood where the worst part of every Halo (1-3) game. ODST, Reach, and H4 were better without them.

I like it. I've always wanted to see the Flood shown how they always should have been shown. There was always a seperation between the enemy Flood and the Flood "architecture." I'd want to see the Flood for what they really are: a single, gigantic eldritch abomination straight out R'lyeh, where there is no line between the creatures rushing you, and the very place you're standing in.

I want them to be a presence more than just a different faction.

I really like how Nylund wrote that. Showing Keyes' degeneration. They really did a very good job with that terminal, it was extremely emotional and intense. It was that scene that makes you feel that the Flood is truly evil. Fits right in with the "darker" setting of Halo that 343 is pursuing.

I agree, I'm secretly hoping that they did the terminal so well because that's the style they intend to stick with in Halo 5/6
