Alright, OP isn't looking at the big picture here.
You kill the man, and it happens to be Hitler. What does this change? A -blam!- ton. For starters, the war probably wouldn't end. Like stated before, some other political leader would take Adolf's place, and the outcome of the war could be exponentially different. Germany could have won, important leaders could have fallen. Hell, it could mean the collapse of modern civilization.
OP mentioned the amount of lives saved, but what impact would said lives have on the planet? One of those people might grow up to be the President, or another strong leader trying to take over the world. Every single person plays a role in this, no matter how unimportant they may seem.
Lastly, we need to think about what happened in that last year technology wise. The atomic bomb was developed which ultimately ended the war. What if the war ended before it was produced? What then? Well, the Cold War might not happen. Russia and the U.S. would have nothing to threaten each other with, which might have led to an actual war.
OP, think about the little things before you make assumptions about what would happen.
*end rant and continues lurking*
