(To discuss Halo 4.)

Because the detonation is instantaneous, and its intended effect can be delayed till the last minute.

High Charity exploding would mess up the energy collection anyway.

It could be the Gravemind. He was aboard the In Amber Clad I believe so it's a good possibility he thought ahead and disabled the reactor.

But why would the Gravemind want the Halo array to fire? Do you think he was just hoping that the Arbiter would be able to stop Tartarus in time?

That makes no sense. He is the one that DOESN'T want the rings to fire. Why would he disable one of the only measures to stop the rings from firing?

Maybe he was confident that the Arbiter would be successful in deactivating the Halo ring.

Wow, was not thinking at all there... Morning mind is not best.

It's a slight possibility he disabled it to save his own existence, and is Flood army, but that would still wipe the Galaxy.

Maybe High Charity was too far from the Ring to activate it?

Or a stray Plasma Torpedo destroyed IAC?

You really think that? I was being sarcastic.

OMG
Master Chief w/o his Helmet!

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

Well I just went to the toilet to have a good think on this, and I think I've found a pretty good explanation.

It's the same reason Cortana wanted the Gravemind to go to the ark.

Halo wouldn't have killed Cortana, but it would have killed the Gravemind (much more thoroughly than destroying High Charity would have, as evidenced by Halo 3). She (still being around post-firing) could have then destroyed the Halo, which presumably would have stopped the signal from being amplified, thus limiting the pulse to the Delta system. Chief was already gone, and the humans on the Halo would have been dead anyway, so it really wouldn't have been a tough call.

That said, High Charity becomes a plot hole after MC leaves. It somehow travels all the way to Earth with no power supply, and apparently the Gravemind was so catastrophically inept that he decided not to send any spores anywhere but the Ark. Then again, at this point this is Halo 3's story we're talking about, so don't even bother.

I'm not sure I understand... Tartarus is on Halo blowing up Halo so I'm going to stop him by blowing up High Charity?

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Stop getting so off topic, discuss this plot hole

How dare you insult Halo 2? Don't you realize how PERFECT that game was?

I bet you are just a bitter kiddie who started with Reach, you are a complete disgrace to this forum, bah, to mankind as a whole.

Anyone who doesn't acknowledge Halo 2 as the ultimate video game of all time simply has a terrible opinion. And we, as kind, educated, completely mature, and helpful Floodians; we must drag you back into the light. We must open your eyes for you to see the true greatness and glory, of the Halo franchise.

But first, leave any magnets with you behind, there are PLENTY of magnets in Halo 2.

Halo 2 was far from perfect.

Don't you recall all the -blam!-ing about playing as the Arbiter?

Hurry up, I'm already at The Arbiter ;)

Nah but thanks! I remember that whole thing now, and... yeah, it seems pretty dodgy I guess. I suppose someone like Cortana would wait until the absolute last few seconds or something before detonating a station with a good deal of important people on it. It was never even really implied that Miranda pulled the index at the last second, was it? I just remember her running to grab it casually like they still had plenty of time to -blam!- around. She ran, but not omg the galaxy is about to end ran.

Well, when she pulls out the index, it's revealed that the Halo was building up all its power and some light had to be released to neutralize it. The fact that the Halo was already having energy in its center shows it was about to fire at any second. Idk, it still seems like a plot hole.

And they call Halo 2 perfect...

It was. Like a shining flawless diamond, Halo 2 had:
-Perfect Weapon Balance.
-Competitive Small Hitboxes.
-BR.
-Glitch-Free Game.
-Plot Holes were absent from campaign.
-BR.
-Best Gaming Experience OF ALL TIME.
-BR.
-Competitive and fair Superjumps.
-Competitive Environment.
-Competitive Skybox.
-BR.
-MLG Rocks and dirt.
-It was so good, that I doubt the Human Race even deserved such a flawless piece of glorious art. Flawless. Bugless. Awesomest!!!
-And of course, BR.

If you disagree, you are a BK with terrible opinions that just contributes to the casualization of games, get out of here, filthy kiddie.

Why didn't Cortana detonate In Amber Clad's reactor when Tartarus activated the rings like she said she would?

Miranda was barely able to stop the rings from firing by removing the Index. However, Cortana didn't know this.
i've always assumed that the epilogue happened before the last level.
