Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.
I've been playing Halo since CE and I would disagree. Do you think that saying that you've been playing since the beginning adds some sort of credibility to everything you spew? If my approval of Halo 2 was run solely on nostalgia, then I would be begging for Halo CE's mechanics in the slop of a game that is Halo 4.
It's not so hard to see that games like Halo 2 and 3 had a big skill gap and games like Halo 4 do not. It's easy to say that everyone still begging for Halo 2 and 3 are nostalgic fanboys because they just seem like a vocal minority to everyone rooting for games that emulate CoD's terrible formula (the drastically bigger audience that most game developers have recently been trying so hard to cater to) are a bunch of casuals rooting for relaxing games that require a small learning curve to feel welcomed.
If an FPS comes out that doesn't feel sloppy/glitchy/produced with little budget, which has a big learning curve and little randomness involved, like how Halo 2 and 3 had, you will be seeing me there. I'm hoping that Destiny will be that way if it is an FPS.
