Just played through the game again recently.
And to be honest, I thoroughly enjoed it much more than my first playthrough. Obviously it's a story based game, and I incredibly enjoy it. Especially in the later desks where the cases are all tied together (in traffic they were each individual).
I also like how it tied in with real events, such as the black daliah murder, and obviously World War 2 (but I don't think that counts). And being able to see older partners rank up in later cases, like seeing bekowsky being homicide in an ad vice case, shows the writers didn't forget about him.
As for the gameplay itself, it's fun. Looking for clues is not annoying in any way thanks to the musical clues, but it's definitely better when you're interrogating someone. Some of the stuff Cole accusses people off makes me laugh. ("You -blam!- young boys senior?")
