Subject: Why do people pay attention to stuff like the newton school shooting?

Why? I don't think of it that much. Isn't that just as well? I'm not you, so I don't know what you people who run this stuff through your mind are thinking. Why do you care? Do you process every spontaneous piece of news that gets presented to you this way? This -blam!- school shooting has a firestorm of discussions throughout the web. At least where I've visited. Personally, I don't think about it, but I'm kind of forcibly made aware of it.

"Why do people pay attention to stuff like the newton school shooting? The newton school shooting."

wat

OT: Because it's a tragedy. Tragedies usually get a lot of traffic on the Internet and on the news. Whatever gets ratings, I suppose.

We all wear masks and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing our own skin.

Complete strangers died that day, so to ponder or care about them is just too pointless for me to do.

I dont get it either. There are other things happening in the world.

Holy -blam!- you just don't stop, do you? You constantly make threads about how you don't care about this tragedy. We get it; you're a cold heartless bastard.

For someone who doesn't care about it, you sure post an awful lot about it.

  • 12.23.2012 4:23 PM PDT

People just want to use it to push their agendas through. They think, "How can we take advantage of the public's current emotional state and what can we blame this on and attempt to get out of it?" Then come the blaming of guns, video games, what have you. I think it's stupid and I see what they are trying to do. I love how they never bring up Hollywood and all of the violent movies and tv shows or bring up all the garbage that spews forth from mtv and the like. They are clearly just trying to ban things they hate.

Unfortunately, this is believable. Maybe not 100%, because I think media is just a neverending, pointless cycle of nonsense, but that could be part of it.

First of all, it's Newtown. Second, because it affects more people thank you think. Gun control laws have come into question lately, as well as the security of our schools and the quality of mental health care. Not to mention it is a tragedy that so many young lives were taken away in such a horrible fashion, and a lot of people want to help and support the victims' families in any way that they can, especially during the holiday season. And obviously, curiosity is a factor as well.

People just don't understand how rare these events are and the minuscule amount of deaths that come from it. Personally, this one didn't hit me at all. Of course NO innocent person should die, and this sick scum was a disturbed person, but we kill far many more school children in other countries, why aren't you all equally as sad for them? Why does it only make news when it happens to us? And for all these idiots like these completely asinine celebrities trying to USE this event to irrationally put gun fear in the minds of children is beyond DISGUSTING and they are extremely shameful.

I dont think about the particular incident much. But I do seem to think a lot lately about all the BS thats been brought up as a result. I also think a lot about why no one seems to want to talk about the real reasons these things happen.

Of course people don't want to bring up the real issue. College education isn't something you can buy at gamestop and play on your Xbox.

Why?

Because 20 little kids and 6 teachers were massacre. Imagine if your child was shot up. I would be devastated. Even though I may not know these people, I can put my self in their shoes; only to try and comprehend how they must fill. I watched their faces as they cried; the most important thing to them was lost and they will never be able to laugh or hug their child again. I listened to their sobs and their story - only for them break down.

That is why I care about this and why so many do.

Do you equally care when it's school children dying in Pakistan? And do you understand how unbelievably rare these events are? You're far more likely to be killed falling in the shower.

The News stations show that these kids died for this reason. They report it - they don't go asking the parents about their kids. Their story's - let alone interview them.

By going deeper into the situation and getting more personal in the massacre, emotions emigre.

That's still an incredibly low number when compared to how else we die. These things are just an anomaly.

The death rate by firearms is insanly high compared to other western countries. Where it may have 5 times the population, firearm fatalities and crimes are hundreds of times higher.

A small town might have almost no crimes committed in a year, but still have a higher crime rate per person than a city, in this case the reverse is sadly true and lax gun laws are the leading factor.

And? Gun violence is such a problem here because of our borders and terrible drug laws, not because of guns themselves. History has shown gun regulations only make EVERYTHING (Even gun crimes) worse. People that want to kill are going to kill, and they have more confidence to do so when they know their victim doesn't have the ability to protect themselves and establish control of the situation.

3200 innocent humans are killed through abortion each day. That doesn't make these deaths any less tragic though
