Even the little ones are loud as hell. They sound warm and sexy too.

Although the wattage/power shouldn't really matter if you're mic'd to a PA system. My Peavey 30W does just fine under that condition.

Depends on what you're looking for as far as sound goes, really. I find tube amps have a lot more personality to them, and solid state amps are more...flat and stale. After having a few tube combos and heads, I would never go back to a solid state amp. They're very much worth the investment, to me.
