Rock bottom is no place to set up camp. Especially in the dark.

I go to my girlfriend's house every so often, and I tend not to leave there until four in the afternoon. With it being Winter, and living in a city with high crime rates, my mother worries about me as I walk home as it gets darker early around this time of year.

This being said, I received 100 dollars and spent half of it on Rasta Skullcandy Hesh 2.0's. I have 50 left, so now I'm on the hunt for good knives in that price range.

Any recommendations?

I've been looking at a Smith and Wesson.

Life will always find a new way to ruin everything you know, enjoy the moments of peace to their fullest and prepare yourself for the lemons that are heading your way and you might just make it.

This was recommended to me by someone who is very into knives.

I'm sure you could find it for less elsewhere if you look hard enough.

Home defense? Did you even read the OP? :/

For self-defense you want either a) a spring operated standard full tang knife, or b) a small boot-knife.

Smith and Wesson makes an awesome boot knife for ~$20. Just look for "SWHRT9B". It's easily concealable, easily throwable, holds a good blade, and allows for quick cutting on both edges. In the event of self-defense, your first priority is to put them into panic rather than kill, which is easily done by making a -blam!--ton of cuts. The blood will put them into panic, and while the wounds will hardly be anywhere close to fatal, they'll back down. And if needed, it can be thrown for range very easily up to ~25ft accurately.

The spring-operated will be much more expensive, especially for a good knife. Then you'll want to look for Bench Made, Cold Steel, or Gerber brands. Most others will fall apart easily and aren't worth the change.

EDIT: I personally have the SW HRT knife, and a bunch of my buddies have them as well, and I've never heard a complaint about them ever. Not to mention how many times the thing's come in handy and proven itself.

EDIT2: lazy linky

Who in their right mind walks around with a knife for self defense? Take up martial arts if you're really that concerned about it instead of risking getting jailed for manslaughter.

Smith and Wesson knives aren't that good. Go with a Buck or Gerber.
