I just watched an episode of future weapons (discovery channel), and a new kind of rifle is being made (due out by 2007) in israel that puts Halo's rifles (due out in 2500?) to shame, I just though it was interesting to see how little faith Bungie puts in human progress.

Yeah, basically:
MJOLNIR = 2500
crappy battle rifle = 1945

Yeah.. but they kinda made Halo balanced didnt they? they didnt sit down and think "well by 2500 they will have small machine guns that shot out of a 10,000 round clip that didnt really weigh anything at all"

So bungie isnt putting human progress to shame - they simply made a very well balanced game did they not?

eait...So your telling us you wanted Bungie team to look into the future.... see what weapons we have in 545 years, and then decide to design their game with those weapons?

Listen. Its Bungie's game. They design it how they want to, with realisticty to this modern age.

If suddenly really cheap space travel was developed with the ability to find planets that could support life or teraform planets very quickly then military developement of tanks, guns, and foot soldier equipment would virtually cease. All money would be put in space weapons and new space ships. Plus a gun can only be so good when mass produced in the way it has to be for halo. We are talking pontentially trillions of the same type of weapon being made to just feed to the endless flow of human population that they have. They dont have the money for super advanced ground weapons. Especially since the ones tehy have work (we dominate on the ground..... we just get owned in space).

Bungie made a big mistake in weapons design, opting for "fun factor" rather than "future factor". Weapons built in 2500 should at least be electromagnetic rail weapons, if not energy weapons... and should not use gunpowder or other archaic substances.

No, because the purpose of weapon advancement is to make a lighter, more compact, and more accurate gun, so I don't want a sniper smg with 10,000 bullets, but I don't want a crappy br with only 108 bullets and less than 100m accuracy either. Overall, I would be happy with an assault rifle with better accuracy and more ammo capacity (since that's what the weapon in halo 3 looked like).

Edit: Meant to counter-argue XTS Platinum

No, but I think the people making FEAR did a pretty good job with their weapons, how about thinking outside the box like they did?

The UNSC invested more into interstellar colonization than weapons(even if we have better weapons today). 500 years in the future-colonization on other star systems, MAC stations, faster than light travel, interstellar naval warships, AIs replicated from a human brain, genetically enhanced cyborg soldiers, etc. I don't think we'd have all those by then. Maybe colonize the moon or Mars.

The only weapons I didn't like in FEAR were the MOD-3 and MP-50... those seem very impractical... though I did love the Type 7 and 10MM Penetrator.

Look at Serenity (the DVD), they colonize other worlds, but still have laser weapons as well as normal guns, I wish they would have opted towards something like that.

In FEAR, I like the lightning gun that turns people to ashes (screw other spartans when you can have a gun like that).

Its a movie... Just like this is a game. We explained to you that they didnt focus on weapons, they focused on space travel... what more do you want?

I believe the MAC guns are sufficiently futureistic, who need hand guns in space when you have all these arsenal on ships and orbit around planets, and surely war between humans wasnt very common, so the need to furthere increase hand held weapons power wasnt needed, they just needed space guns to defend plannets agains invaders, and their weapons are gonn enough for fighting humans.

OK, kudos to Bungie for the space travel, MAC guns, and MJOLNIR armor, but without futuristic hand guns, it seems somewhat incomplete.

How bout in MC's time we have the human race populated on thousands of other planets, making countless expanable marines, MAC guns, pelicans and all that other exspensive stuff. I think that would all cost like "10 billion gazillion trillion ZEZIMA thillion shillion" dollars.

So stop beetching about halo2. if you dont like it, i'll have your copy of it. I for one actually like it. And if we had some giantly powerful weapons.. and won the war straight away.. what would be the point in the haloverse games????

P-S... Theres a scarab gun on metropolitis for those who still want to beetch.

EDIT: BTW, I'm not "beetching" as you so elegantly put it, I was making a valid point with relevancy to the 21st century, if I was "beetching", I would be saying how stupid Bungie was, on the contrary, I just suggested a different path that Bungie could have taken.

Look at the title, does it say "Why I hate Halo..." NO it does not, it says "kinda ironic" because I think it's funny that we're already ahead of Halo in hand gun capability.

You have a point however, we are talking about the halo universe not our universe. Apparently in the halo universe it takes them a bit longer than us to move foward, technology wise than we do.

So your saying that the Haloverse is an exact Duplicate of this universes timeline?? WOW!!! really? So it has nothing to do with bungies view on a made up universe, but what will really happen in this universe? COOLIO

whole sarcasm thing going there. and its haloverse. not realverse.

And now we'll come back to the basics. Its a game, it doesnt need to be realistc, it just needs to be fun and engaging, yet somewhat believable to some degree. But seriously, your asking bungie to see into the future, and i currently dont know anyone who has that ability, but if you have i'd love to meet them, and i'm sure bungie would like to hear what they have to say, as well as everyone else in the world.
