Since I've been writing a few programs lately (that pull from external databases) and fixing a few computers here and there I've had time to sit back and view several kinds of loading metrics that are used. Some of which made me want to rip my hair out because it felt like an eternity while others I could easily sit back and wait the exact same amount of time, but feel like less time passed.

What do you think is the most effective loading metric representation to make it feel like something is making progress?

I don't like Call of Duty or the word "Swag"

Spinning icon is absolutely horrible for anything other than a extremely short loading time.

Es ist Zeit für einige Gefahr-pay

Definitely percentage.

"Banhammer" - Post anything on the Waypoint forums -50g
Never forget:
Porch Day
lolReach
Gen Petitt Day
Night of the Living Alts

I kinda like the repeating dots.

Yeah, I was just thinking that text with the current operation was one of the more effective ones, but I forgot it in the poll (but included under Other). I don't see it combined with a percentage too often though, but more so with a loading bar. That combination is one I find to be very good.
