Aside from the fact that machines destroying life to prevent machines from destroying life is such a -blam!- absurd premise?

That is exactly what I thought in Mass Effect. A machine race destroying all life, to stop the cycle of machines from doing it? WTF?

Because it kept a balance. It allowed civilizations to have their time on Earth in the form of cycles instead of there being no civilization at all

Because it was bad.

Yes, even with the Extended Cut.

- The entire Earth mission was a disappointment. I was expecting another suicide mission, except with the War Assets you gathered. Didn't happen.

- Marauder Shields was a disappointing final boss. I still love him though.

- How did the Normandy get to your position so quickly when it was busy partaking in the battle in space? Why send the Normandy itself to extract one or two squadmates? Why not send a shuttle?

- Why didn't Harbinger blast the Normandy when it was sitting there wide open for five minutes.

- How did Nigel Fish N Chips not see Shepard limping towards the space beam elevator?

- Speaking of the space beam elevator, how does anybody know it works? How do they know it won't kill them when they use it or that it won't lead them to a melting pot?

- Oh, this one isn't that important, but...HOW DID THE REAPERS MOVE THE CITADEL TO EARTH? Why did they move it to Earth? Why didn't they attack the Citadel sooner? If they can control all Mass Relays from the Citadel, why didn't they shut off the Mass Relay leading to Earth?

- What happened to everyone on the Citadel? What happened to that Citadel Defense Force?

- How did Anderson follow you up, yet end up ahead of you?

- Why was the Illusive Man in that weird observation deck of the Citadel? How did he know you would be there?

- Why is there a control panel to open the Citadel arms in that observation deck?

- Why did the Star Brat bring you up to his lair?

- Why does the Star Brat look like the kid from the intro?

- Why can't we argue with the Star Brat? Why can't we prove him wrong?

- Why is the Star Brat even talking to us and giving us ways to stop the Reapers?

- If the Star Brat is the Citadel and controls the Reapers, why didn't he just open the Citadel Relay in Mass Effect 1?

- Why is Control even an option? We just convinced the Illusive Man that control was impossible and that he should kill himself, yet we're given the option. How does it even work?

- Why is Synthesis an option? That's exactly what Saren wanted and we could convince him to off himself too. How does it even work? How do synthetics have DNA?

- Why is Destruction painted as the worst option? Why do the Geth have to die?

------------------------------------

Ugh...that's all I can take. There's a lot more, but i can't list them all. Im gonna go insane if I do.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

You are telling me machines want to kill organics to stop them from machines to keep the cycle going even though they could have killed machines instead of organics to keep organics alive?

There are a lot of other games with much worse endings such as Halo 3 imo but these games never had as much backlash as Bioware had. I think they recieved so much undeserved negative critismn which really damaged the studios reputation that has made one of the best triliogys in video game history.

That and I just don't think the ending was all that bad

The ending pissed me off/let me down so much that I haven't touched a single game in the trilogy since and probably won't ever again. And I loved Mass Effect too.

But I suppose that just shows how great the games were before the ending. Bioware fell victim to their own reputation. Unless the only time you had fun was by imagining what would happen at the ending every time you made a desicion.
no it just shows how awful the ME fanbase is. I

I'm only mad that my choices weren't reflected in the ending. And Shepard should have actually lived. I saw a mod video and it showed shepard putting Anderson's name on the wall and then hugging Liara and it gave me that goosebump feeling and made me tear up. Something that the normal ending didn't make me do and that mod ending is the ending in my eyes.

Ah yes the MEHEM mod

That mod was a fine

So Says Shadroxon.

The original ending was sub-par. Most of your choices throughout the game had no effect on the endings. It became cool to hate Mass Effect 3, even after the extended cut was released.

The ME fanbase is horrible. Whoever denies it is just a horrible person.

This made me lol for some reason.

You say tomato; I say potato.

The core aesthetic of the series was to witness the consequences of your actions through a visual narrative. The ending was a short cinematic that was the same for each outcome and a small info dump that some strange hallucination gives you.

The story telling approach ran into a brick wall right before the finish line.

When I beat ME3 the first time, I htought:
Man, that sucks. All these alien coalition army that went to save Earth are wither now dead or stranded there. And same goes for the other alien planets. If the Relay explosion didn't kill them, they are now stuck in that system. That blows. Oh well, at least the Reaper threat is stopped.

So I didn't have all these "Bioware y u no 'splain endng!" questions.

That was my first thought, also. It was definitely not a happy ending in any sense, but that's all right with me.

Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

Possibly, and this is just a guess here, because it was terrible

"If practice makes perfect" and 'nobody's perfect,' then what's the point of practice?"

Mass Effect 3's ending was great if you didn't think about it.

Same here. I thought that the original ending was a more bleak and dark ending.

Planets have either been completely destroyed or near to when the Relays explode. It causes confusion and panic since they do not know why they exploded and they are now isolated from other parts of the galaxy, which they may have traded with or had family there.

Is there a chance to rebuild? Is it possible to traverse the wide galaxy at any reasonable rate without the Relays? Is the Reaper threat over? (It is for the time being but they do not know because they have been cut off from the rest of the galaxy).

It was just a darker ending, I felt.

dont like my driving? stay off the sidewalk

it was a "select any ending" thing. everything you worked for meant nothing, be you paragon or renegade, saved or killed your team, did or didnt have sex with a teammate. it didnt matter. NONE OF IT MATTERED!

  • 12.24.2012 8:30 PM PDT

Remember those times when we all had something better to be doing, but didn't do it? Those were good times. Gooood times

ME1:
Ending-> Your choices effected how the entire next game played out

ME2: Your choices from ME1 have easily noticeable effects and all choices change the ending

ME3: Red, blue or Green, gentlemen. Red, blue or green.

My problem with the original ending is that the universe was probably worse off with the Mass Relays destroyed than with the cycle. Also, your team getting stranded for no reason. Also, you have no idea what everyone else is going to do. It was basically just a slap in the face before EC. EC fixed a lot of my biggest issues with the ending. I still dislike Star Child though, it was an attempt to make the Reapers appear sympathetic and I just thought it was BS. I've never picked any ending except Destroy though, so I've never let the Star Child influence my choice. You're honestly telling me that Shepard was 100% on board with the mission, and then at the last possible moment decides to listen to the enemy and that the Reapers really aren't so bad? There can be no peace with beings that believe that the perpetual extinction of civilizations is an optimal solution, even if it is did preserve the balance for millions upon millions years (each cycle is 50,000 years, and there have been thousands of cycles).
