Ah, the internet. Where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI.

Im looking to get a new laptop (as my current one can barely do flash games/youtube videos). If I do any gaming on it, it would probably be something like minecraft or team fortress 2 (as I already have a custom built desktop for any other game).

My max budget would be $700, but preferably something closer to $600.

Mostly will just be used for school work and light gaming.

I saw these two on newegg (HP Pavilion and HP Probook), dunno if those are a good choice.

Any suggestions welcome.

Also, I saw an asus on newegg that was marked Open Box. Is that worth looking into? Are refurbished and Open Box items still good (my viewpoint on refurbished is kinda skewed since gamestop screwed me with a broken refurbished game cube many years ago)?

Many thanks.

Both of them should do fine then. If you're planning to use it for light gaming then both should do the job.

I'd recommend this for your budget, but since you'd prefer something closer to $600 then I'd go with one of the ones you were looking at.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

The HP Pavilion dv6 is what I have, the only problem I have with it is heat problems.
A cooling fan will help though.

NON FACET NOBIS CALCITRARE VESTRUM PERNĒ¢UM

If they have wholesales stores in your area (BJ's,Sam's,Costco's) take a look at what they have. I got a Toshiba with 640gb HD, 4GB ram, DVD-RW, 17.1in screen for $400 flat. I need an extra for work, something to leave at the office, so a decent inexpensive one is easy to find.
