Subject: Weapon weights and magazines.

Okay, so I was thinking about this:

When using heavy weapons such as Brute Shots, Rocket Launcher, Fuel Rod, Sniper...I think that MC should move slower. Similar to Perfect Dark Zero's system. Using medium and light weight weapons such as rifles, shotguns, dual-wieldable weapons ect should allow MC to move at normal speed. I know that MC is all augmented and is all superhuman, but I think that wielding more heavier weapons should come with a penalty - that being that the character may run at around 3/4 speed. Wielding 2 heavy weapons (Rockets and Sniper for example) should reduce speed to around 1/2. If that is too low, I think there should be just something there to slow you down.

With the ammo thing, I think that instead of reloading your magazine, and the leftover rounds in the magazine before magically returning to the rest of the bullets, they should be discarded along with the magazine. For example...If you fire 10 of the 12 rounds from a pistol and reload, the remaining 2 rounds in that magazine should be discarded with the mag...Get what i mean? O_o

Also...Theres the thing with motion blur which im interested in. When turning, or changing weapons...Or maybe a grenade going off near you (enough for you to get hit by splash) a small amount of motion blur should be introduced to create the image that it is smooth. The thing about FPS' of the last generation that got on my nerves was that blocky way that when you turned, it seemed jittery. I think motion blur would solve this and create a smoother game.

I think that all three would help to add more realism to the game.

Sorry if this stuff has been mentioned before. Didnt see any topics. go to hell if you got a problem ;-)

Sounds like a good idea. But I don't like moving slower. It works for Cod2 and PD because they aren't cyborgs with genetic enhancements. I think the chief could move fine with just that "little" rocket launcher/Fuel cannon. I mean my gosh, the dude flips tanks over when you flip them.

  • 07.06.2006 7:19 AM PDT

too realistic.

it doesn't make it as fun.

  • 07.06.2006 7:20 AM PDT

you have a good point about the tank thing...O_o

No, the farther awat form PDZ it can be the better. Plus, it would slwo the combat too much. Just look at PDZ, it's so slow!

Halo 2 already was too slow paced. I say make them run faster!

Which is not a good thing.

Agreed. PDZ is very slow, but they're only human. Wielding a plasma rifle on that game, or a Rocket launcher is damn slow. But I dont mean characters to move that slow...Just enough of a slowdown to sort-of let the player know and give them the feeling that they're wielding this heavy weapon...PDZ is a freaking slow game.

*rolls eyes* Why bother to even reply when your just spitting out 3 word answers? Why not back yourself up and tell us all why you disagree.

! master chief is really really strong he can flip a tank i dont think a weapon would slow him down(read the books where kelly has to rockets run straight up a hill jumps 15 fett into the air and than fires the rockets)
2.The sniper isnt heavy
3.Elites are just as strongn 2

Yeah, but elites and Spartans are MORE than human.

I would rather state my opinion quickly and simply than not state it at all.

Why not back yourself up and tell us all why you disagree.

Because most people on this forum are not interested in reasoning - they congratulate what agrees with them and attack what doesn't, and to hell with any logic or explanation in between.

What? Im only asking for a reason as to why people dont agree. I have no problem with people not liking the idea (which its pretty much tough -blam!- at the end of the day seeing as bungie do the deciding around here.). Im just trying to make discussion, and with retards like you coming out with the most useless crap, its a wonder people even still come to this forum.

You can die now.

ideas with an 's'. There are 3 ideas. Maybe you should read the post fully before mouthing off.

Also, learn how to type. Your poor sentence structure and spelling made it difficult to read your last post.

Having characters run slower is one way to balance weapons, and Bungie has always been kind of weak in that area. Getting rid of cancel glitches would help a lot too. Having a clip system for ammo in place of the current pool one would add depth to the game. Currently I automatically reload after every single fight, even if I only used like three bullets.

  • 07.06.2006 7:59 AM PDT

Not much thought was given to weapon balance in Halo 2 - it is a game of controlling the power weapons, they meant it to be that way I'm sure. Before anyone starts -blam!-ing and crying, the word 'balance' is bandied around an awful lot and it means many things to many people with varying degrees of relevance. What I mean by weapon balance here is, no weapon should utterly overpower another. You should be able to put up a half-decent fight with any weapon if used correctly, including the weapon you spawned with. Halo 1 was more like that because each weapon had its own strengths (though they were tied together with an 'equalizer' (the pistol) which many thought was TOO useful in each situation. No matter.) The point is all the weapons were effective if used correctly. Yes, you are still at a disadvantage if they have the rocket launcher or the sniper rifle - but the gap between the strongest and weakest weapon was smaller.

If the weapons are to be balanced out, I would MUCH rather see it done like that - rather than by penalizing movement speed or any other realism-based mechanic. Not only does realism not matter a crap, but that would drastically change the dynamics of multiplayer, something which after two successful games I think should be avoided at all costs. I certainly couldn't imagine playing Rocketball with everyone walking around slowly for example.

The chief can flip over a tank why would he struggle to walk with a rocket launcher?

The same reason he can't hold an SMG straight? -blam!- knows.
