Using Xbox LIVE's population statistics isn't doing Halo 4 any favors. Not to sound rude, but Halo 4's population is piss poor compared to Halo 3 when it first launched, and there were considerably less Xbox's in the household back then.

Population is already high, Hell, it's the 2nd most played XBL game!

Not really. It was demonstrated not long ago, that Halocharts is not a reliable source for data regarding population. And the myth that Halo 3 had a larger population at launch is also not true. According to the Wayback Machine, Halo 3 had very similar numbers of players compared to 4.... and Reach.

BUT, since there were less ecksbawks in households back in 07, Halo 3 then, had a larger chunk of the total Xbox population, so it was more popular.
sources please for both statements.

What is Halo 4's population being compared to? Black ops? Halo will NEVER even come close to rivalling a CoD game. The very comparison is invalid.

Oh you mean like how the last quality Halo game, Halo 3, rivaled CoD 4?
Things were different back then.

Explain. Call of Duty was always really popular so don't give me anything saying otherwise. You mean things like Halo was unique?

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

I hope you know that "HaloCharts" is an invaluable source.

I hope you realize that invaluable means of great value.

Just like inflammable means flammable, lol.

I can't accept Wayback Machine right now since I can't get it to work at the moment. Also, I would like to point out that Halo 4's population is steadily declining. Halo 3's population only went up until Reach came out. I know this because if what you're saying is true about the numbers Halo 3 at the start it had to have gone up because I distinctly remember there being a 50k player count in Halo 3 BTB at the time of Halo 3's peak, where Halo 4 is struggling to maintain 10k (if that) with its own BTB playlist.

Signatures are for little kids.

I like it, I can find games quickly and easily.. not caring if it's popular or not.

I didn't expect a big population boost on Christmas.. I expect less people to be playing because people are spending time with their families.

There were threads for those things, like 2 weeks ago. I really can't be bothered to look up for them (dat failsearchbox). The Wayback Machine thing you can look it up, just look at the snapshots of bungie.net during 2007, the population numbers displayed are almost the same compared to Reach and 4). But since Halo 3 had a larger chunk, of the xbl population compared to Reach and 4, it gave the illusion of having way more players.

You mean the game that started the franchise for all intents and purposes? Yeah. Halo's days have gone by it and while CoD attracts a larger audience with every release because just about everyone can have fun playing it Halo is stuck with a more specialised fanbase.

I also thought of the same, the first time I played Halo 3 online, it had a lot of people at the moment. But considering how saturated the FPS market is, and how much more fierce competition Halo 4 faces, it is no surprising to me that Halo is getting stagnant. Don't get me wrong, the numbers should be higher, not roughly the same as 3/Reach, but unless I can't find players quickly, I don't really care.

halo 4 sux, 343 ruined Bungie's legacy!

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that the stats have been altered two weeks after they were put out? Around two weeks ago the stats were showing around 70,000 players per week, now they have been raised to 90,000 well after the fact. Seems to me that 343i is now fabricating info.

Nope. RippinHeads was the best Halo 3 player. Everyone knows that.

Who?

Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Two things.

1. lol@using HaloCharts.
2. If you 'expected' that then that's your own damn fault mate.

3.If you care that much about population, lol.

The peak populaion has never been at 70k yet, the lowest so far is 91k. Want to see when there's 70k online then check the hourly peak population for that.

Simple, Halo was the king of the FPS genre, it's popularity at its peak. It also released with relatively little competition, and had time to establish a sizeable population.

Things are quite a bit different now.

It was something about HCharts not measuring UU's, and how basing off of the daily peaks was a bad idea and not very accurate... If the damn search box worked, I'd show you the thread!

I like playing it. You're projecting.

It's a common thing kids do, they don't like something so they assume everyone else in the world feels the same way.

You'll grow out of it.

I bet they secretly love it. No one gives so much attention to something without loving a part of it.

Yup, I'm gonna get flamed.

Halo 4 is still number 2 on the LIVE charts. That is by no means a "failure" so go ahead and try to use population as evidence that the game sucks. It only works against your argument.

Not exactly much competition though is there? Minecraft is #3 then FIFA and then two more CoDs.

Things are quite a bit different now.

Or what really happened is that Halo Reach/4 no longer was unique and they tried to appeal more to their competition's audience but they couldn't do CoD style gameplay as well as CoD can and so everyone who were fans of Halo were disappointed by the CoD-ization of the game and left the game and the CoD kids were disappointed by how awful the attempt at being CoD was and so they left the game and went back to CoD.

If Halo stayed Halo and an arena shooter I guarantee it would have kept many more fans.
