T4R. I'm going to buy a 4G xbox soon, will there be a price drop in January or something?

And is it against the rules to take out my old hard drive and insert it in my new box?

It was 200 earlier this year. It dropped already? What was it originally?

I only play xbox for halo and cod. I have a 16g hard drive on my old box. I'm not wasting money on anything more than 4g

In an attempt to extort more money out of their customers, Micro$oft made the old hard drive incompatible with the new xbox, so you'll have to go out and buy a bigger hard drive.

And then buy a separate cable to transfer all your data over.

When did they do that?

Actually you can disassemble the old hard drive and it works with the new xbox....

That's not entirely correct. They're both SATA drives. You just have to break the drive out of its enclosure to use it in the new 360.

My brother did this. I don't see why I can't. I never heard of what he is talking about.

If your xbox is still running ok, Save your money til next year, Seem like Microsoft will release new hardware and maybe possibility ending the xbox 360 like the orignal one. You never know.
Mine is Xbox 360 Pro/HDMI with 20 GB hard drive, It's still running strong.

Ahh nevermind it was only for the holidays it was $50 off. Now I really doubt they will since they just had that sale and their wouldn't be a point to start a new sale a week later.

As someone else said if your old box works good why upgrade? (If your old box works)

Let's clarify some things right now:

> I assume you have a 1st gen Xbox 360
> The Xbox Slim is a new model of Xbox
> As it is a new model, the hard drive is of a different shape, and is inserted into the bottom of the console rather than slid into place along the top.
> Microsoft releases the 4gb console for a cheaper price because it is undoubtedly not big enough to last for long. I have 16gb usb flash drives a fraction of the size
> Therefore, you will need to buy a hard drive with larger memory
> If you want to transfer all the data from your previous hard drive (1st gen) into your new one (2nd gen) you will need to buy a separate cable that does this.

EDIT: As those before me have mentioned, yes, you can disassemble it, but based off what I'd seen so far you didn't seem like the type to do that. I invite you to try.
