So I got a LCD HDTV for christmas and my problem with it is input lag. The TV im currently using is one of those old fat ones so it has no lag whatsoever.
Will an HDMI cable fix my lag problem and if so what kind? I plan on playing an Xbox 360 on it if that makes any difference and i can post the make and model of the TV if necessary.

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

^ They got it

input lag. Sounds like your game is lagging.

Plus, if you can notice the input lag in fighting games when moving from a tube tv to a flat screen, then you cant do much since the lag comes with the upgrade. But if its a very noticeable input lag, like press A to jump and it jumps a second later. Its your internet. The only thing you can do if your new tv sucks with the ms responses time it to get a better tv with a lower response time.

LCD response time is the issue, it has nothing to do with HDMI cable/connection.

Common issue for LCD.

the problem is the HDTV that i just got, my old tv has no input or command lag.

What im talking about is a scenario when i want to jump and my character actually jumps .5 seconds after i press the command, making the game feel unnatural and uncomfortable to play.

1.) "Crack In Time" - Louder Production Music
2.) "Agressive Sucks" - Moss Landing
3.) Custom Version of "Meet Oscar" - Louder Productions Music
4.) "Behind You Rise" - Distortion Music
5.) "Aurora" - Mark Petrie
6.) "Surge Down - Audio Machine

^ Sounds a lot like game lag OP.

But HDMI does make a difference if your looking for resolution and sound.

Xbox? PS3?

Is it connected directly to your LCD, or are you going through an A/V receiver, then to the display?

Don't do this. HDMI cables are all the same quality, and you should never pay more than $5 for an HDMI cable. You can get them online for $1-2.

Generally speaking this is true, b/c the signal is digital. You can run into problems with longer cables though when it comes to HDCP handshake or other bandwidth intensive applications like 3D.

Yes. I paid 15 or 20, and I've had no problems what so ever.

Component or VGA? Check your LCD display setting for a "game mode." It might help with the lag.

You're wrong. All HDMI cables are rated for HDMI quality, and the only difference is in speed; however, all HDMI cables can at the very least transmit 1080i signal quality, and others (50+ feet or 3D-rated cables) are "high speed". High speed HDMI cables, exactly what you might pay $20-30 for at BestBuy, are available online for around $5. If your $5 cable was bad, then you should have returned it rather than spend quadruple the original amount on what was probably the exact same type of cable.

I would like to add to this that Monster Cables are a ripoff, and I am having delicious turkey for dinner soon.

I've bought 5 from that same vendor. They all work fantastically. I even had my friend come over with his $50 Monster HDMI cable and compared them. No difference at all. HDMI sends a digital signal, just like an Ethernet cable (an HDMI cable is technically just a 19-pin Ethernet cable). So unless one of the wires in the cable is damaged, which would require some serious abuse, there will be no difference in quality or response time with the $2 cable vs the $50 cable. If we were talking analogue it would be a different story.

I apologize in advance for all the crappy jokes I make.

Make sure your TV is running in "game mode", when TV's display images at 100Hz or higher there can be some input lag.
