Dear tomorrow, Find some sensibility, Respond to emotion.
Dear Politician, Define sagacity,
All chances of survival are beginning to diminish.
Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.

The battle takes place aboard a motionless space vessel. It is completely abandoned, but the power still works. The hunt begins with no variables, but the environment and situation may be altered. (i.e. cutting the power, blowing up walls)

Both Soldiers will be on opposite sides of the ship, equal distances from the control room. Their objective is to kill the other.

Boss is armored in his Katarn-class Commando armor. He also has his DC-17m interchangeable blaster rifle and a DC-15s sidearm. He also carries Thermal Detonators. His weapons are at full ammo capacity.

John is in his MJOLNIR Mk. VI armor. He is equipped with a BR85HB SR and a M6H magnum handgun. He is carrying fragmentation grenades and can call in a Sniper Rifle System 99-S5 Anti-Materiel and M41 Anti-Vehicle Rocket launcher. All weapons are at full capacity.

Who will win?

Let me know of any mistakes/misunderstandings.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

I love both of them, but I feel like Chief has the edge here.

Even with Boss's Blaster that can quickly convert into a Grenade launcher or a sniper?

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

I'm not familiar with the differences between Star Wars and Halo weapons/armor technology, but just judging by their physicality and skill, Chief would come out on top.

Chief has both of them, and his rockets are significantly more powerful. Plus, a Clone Commando's shields are weaker than Chiefs.

So Says Shadroxon.

"Boss" wins.

Everyone is gonna vote Chief, though.

  • 12.25.2012 9:24 PM PDT

Boss's advantage: Extremely durable armor, powerful weaponry, energy shielding.

John's advantages: Superior physicality (strength, speed, reflexes, and senses), superior mentality, more diverse equipment, shielding, motion tracker (is key in a hunting game).

But his biggest advantage is that Chief is used to working alone. While a lone Commando is still a deadly threat, they fall far more easily than when they're in a full squad. A lone Spartan, on the other hand, can wipe out armies without being seen.

Only one of any number of ways Chief could win this is if keeps an eye on his motion tracker and forces melee. In such tight quarters as a ship, this would be easy pickings for the Chief.

We will assume that Chief can only carry three weapons at a time though, and that he cannot have the Battle rifle, launcher, and sniper at the same time.

I'm aware.

...I didn't think he was going to duel-wield his rockets and sniper, or something.

Also, Chief's got a foot height advantage, and he's much stronger.

Might that make him bulkier and harder to sneak?

In a ship, he wouldn't need the sniper rifle. So that gives him the rockets, the pistol and the rifle, along with the grenades, and his deadliest weapon in this engagement, his motion tracker and his fists. People underestimate the tracker, but it is a mighty fine tool to have, seeing as it gives you omniscient detail for everything within range.

The Chief outclasses Boss in almost every imaginable way. The only real advantage he has is that 1) the metal plating in Katarn armor is bullet proof (though not necessarily the joints), and 2) his weapons are more advanced. But tell that to any number of physically superior Covenant. See who they say wins.

Weren't Trandoshan weapons projectile?

"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

I would win, since I am a god.

But for thy thread's sake, I will go with my champion. The Master Chief since I have had a bad experience with clones.

I do believe that the reason that Verpine weapons were so effective against Katarn armor was the fact that they fire projectiles, not energy or whatever it is.

What if the battle took place in a thin forest?

You'd still have to deal with John's superior strength and speed. A single rocket would finish Boss while none of Boss's weapons could kill John fast enough to prevent him from doing it. Or running up and forcing melee, at which point he's screwed.

And considering the above point about Trandoshan weapons...
